Bengaluru, Nov 24: A woman from Thiruvanantapuram in Kerala has lodged a complaint claiming that she has been cheated of Rs 3 lakh by a man she identified as Aravind.

Suma M told Cubbon Park police that Aravind had promised to help her avail a Rs 50-lakh loan for a commission of Rs 3 lakh.

“I wanted to start a business and was looking for a Rs 25-lakh loan. I got Aravind’s number online while I was looking for people who could help me. He was from Bengaluru and claimed to be a commission agent at a bank and that he could help me,” Suma was quoted as having told the police.

Having spoken with Aravind, Suma also roped in one of her relatives who was also looking to avail a Rs 25-lakh loan. Together, they approached Aravind, who promised to get them a Rs 50-lakh loan.

“As instructed by him, we arrived in Bengaluru on November 19. The next day, we met Aravind at a coffee shop on MG road. He told us that the loan request had been processed and that we need to give him Rs 3 lakh as commission and that it would also cover stamp charges,” police said quoting Suma’s statement.

Suma and her relative gave Aravind the money, who then left the coffee shop saying he would come back with the loan papers but did not return. “We waited for him till night, called him repeatedly, but his phone was off,” Suma’s complaint read.

Madikeri, Apr 22: The quality of water in the River Cauvery in Kodagu district has improved significantly following the nationwide Lockdown.

The discharge of effluents from home stays and resorts situated on the banks of the river in the district has stopped due to lack of visitors. The discharge of waste water had made the river impure all these years.

The suspension of boat ride in Dubare has reduced the pollution from diesel motorboats in the river. For the last few years, the water quality of the river had reached 'C' category from 'B' category during the summer.

Bengaluru, Apr 24: The Karnataka Health Department is likely to shift the 119 accused in Padarayanapura violence to Bengaluru's Haj Bhavan from Ramnagar Jail.

This comes after two accused out of 121, who were shifted to Ramnagar jail, tested positive for coronavirus. They have been shifted to Victoria Hospital.

A ruckus erupted in Padarayanapura on Sunday allegedly over the shifting of 15 secondary contacts of corona positive patients to a quarantine facility by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials.

Padarayanapura is recognised as a 'red zone'. When BBMP officials went to shift the suspected COVID-19 patients, some people created a ruckus, broke a barricade and removed the police post in the area.
