Udupi, Dec 29: Vishwesha Tirtha Swami, the chief pontiff of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt, who is vacating the Paryaya Peeth soon, has made it clear that he would not ascend the Paryaya Peetha for the sixth time as he would be 100 years old then.

Paryaya Peetha is the rotating presidency of the eight mutts of Udupi’s Krishna temple. During two year Paryaya term, the chief pontiff of the one of the eight mutts will take the responsibility of the puja and administration of the temple.

The 86-year-old Vishwesha Tirtha is the only seer among the Ashta Mutt swamijis to have ascended the Paryaya Peetha of the 800-year-old Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple five times ever since the biennial Paryaya system began here in 1522. He had taken over the responsibility for the fifth time on 18 January 2016, from Kaniyoor Mutt's Vidhyavallabhatirtha Swamiji.

Replying to the queries of media persons on Thursday, here the seer said that he already was suffering from some health problems and hence he would not think of taking over the responsibility once again after 16 years. “If I were alive I would guide Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, who will ascend the Paryaya Peetha,” he said.

After stepping down from the Paryaya Peetha, the he would take up the work of construction of an educational institution and a hospital on the outskirts of Hubballi, construction of a student hostel in Shivamogga and Mysuru, and the construction of a Krishna Temple in Pune, the seer said.

He said that the achievements of his fifth Paryaya included the renovation of the inner yard (“Ola Pauli”) of the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple, construction of the Madhwangana Hall above the Rajangana Hall, the construction of a three-storey building housing 20 dormitories, a guesthouse and extension of the existing Yatri Nivas. All these works together had cost around Rs. 11 crore.

He had also constructed a building for a residential educational institution at Pajaka, the birthplace of the exponent of Dvaita philosophy, Sri Madhwacharya, at a cost of Rs. 5 crore. To a query, he said that the project of planting of one crore saplings could not be fully implemented.

A series of programmes will mark the valedictory of the historic fifth Paryaya of the seer from January 1 to 14, 2018. As part of the valedictory of his fifth Paryaya, he will perform the 36th Sudha Mangalotsava on January 5 along with Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, junior seer of his mutt. Satyatma Tirtha Swami of Uttardi Mutt will attend the function.

The Chandrika Mangalotsava will be held on January 6. Vidyashreesha Tirtha Swami of Vyasaraja Mutt will attend it. A large number of scholars of Dvaita philosophy from across the State were expected to participate in these two functions.

A Philosophy Conference will be held here on January 8 and 9. Scholars of Advaita, Vishishtadvaita and Dvaita philosophies from across the country will participate in the conference. The valedictory function of the religious discourses will be held on January 14, he said.

Bidar, Jan 31: In a disturbing development, the police have arrested two women – a schoolteacher and mother of two students – in connection with staging a play against the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens at a prestigious school in Karnataka’s Bidar.

The arrested have been identified as Farida Begum, headmistress of Shaheen Urdu Medium Primary School, and Navida, the mother of a student who played a role in the play.

The development comes days after police filed a sedition case against the management of Shaheen School following a complaint lodged by the ABVP claiming that play contained objectionable dialogues against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The drama was performed during an annual function of the school on January 21.

Bidar SP Sreedhara T confirmed the arrest of Farida Begum and Navida, and said the accused were remanded to judicial custody on Thursday.

Sreedhara said that based on the complaint by one Neelesh Rakshal, the police filed an FIR under sedition charges, initially against the headmistress and management of the school on Saturday. He said that the police have questioned about 50 people, including the members of the management committee of Shaheen Urdu Medium Primary School, staff of the school, audience, parents and students. Based on the statements and evidence, the headmistress and the parent have been arrested.

The SP said that as per the statements and evidence collected, they came to know that the headmistress played a major role in organising the controversial play. The students practised the drama for a week and the headmistress knew about its script containing controversial dialogues against the Prime Minister and senior BJP leaders.

Considering this, she has been booked for creating communal disharmony and abetting sections. The SP said that when a dialogue of slapping the Prime Minister was said on the stage, Navida gave her chappals to the child, to be used while saying the dialogue. She has been arrested for abetting.

Expressing shock over sedition case and arrests, Dr Abdul Qadeer, the chairman of Shaheen Group of Institutions, said that the school management would fight out legally.

About Shaheen Group

Founded by Dr Abdul Qadeer, Shaheen Group has spread its wings through nine states of India and runs 43 institutions and related units. It has also been running a unique course for Huffaz named as ‘Hifz Ul Quran Plus’ in which Huffaz are prepared to appear and excel in competitive exams (NEET-JEE(IIT)).

According to Dr Qadeer, Shaheen’s mission is to engage, educate and empower wards, equipping them with strengths to enter the world of opportunities through free education across various domains in state- owned academic centers of excellence.

The group also runs coaching centers for medical and engineering entrance examinations. So far 1,200 students from the Shaheen Group of institutions got seats in government medical colleges, he said.

‘Hifz Ul Quran Plus’ course was for huffaz between 12 and 17 years. A four-year integrated course is conducted for Huffaz-E-Karam for getting students modern education. By pursuing this course and by appearing in competitive exams (NEET-IIT JEE), Huffaz will be able to get admission into MBBS, BE, & MBA, he said.

Mangaluru, May 22: Following requests from Kannadiga entrepreneurs in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and persistant efforts of former deputy chairperson of the NRI Forum of Karnataka government Dr Arathi Krishna, the government of India has finally approved the repatriation of stranded Indian expatriate workers amidst prolonged covid-19 lockdown through chartered flights arranged by their employing companies particularly in Gulf region and elsewhere.

The government has also issued a Standard Operation Protocol (SOP) to be followed to be followed by those who hire the flights. The government's nod will not only allow repatriation of larger number of citizens, who are on wait-lists, but also allows private airlines to get their aircraft, crew, and operational staff actively working again in preparation for resumption of scheduled flights.

Zakaria Jokatte, CEO of Al-Muzain Est. and K S Sheik, Director of Operations at Expertise Contracting Co. Ltd - both Mangalurean entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia - were among those who had sought permission to hire chartered flights for the immediate repatriation of their hundreds of employees.

The NRI entrepreneurs in Gulf have thanked Dr Arathi Krishna for continuously persuading the authorities concerned to issue green signal for the operation of chartered flight at a time when there were only a few scheduled flights under Vande Bharat Mission.

Welcoming the move Dr Arathi Krishna told coastaldigst.com that Indians stranded in any foreign country can utilize this facility. "Initially, I was approached by Mr Zakaria and Mr Sheik who wanted chartered flights to help their employees fly back to India. I asked them to write to the Indian Ambassador in Saudi Araia Mr Ausaf Sayeed. Then I requested the ambassador to forward the request to Joint Secretary Dr Nagendra Prasad, who is in charge of gulf division in the Ministry of External Affairs, and then to Secretary on charge of Gulf and then I requested Secretary of Economic Relations Mr T S Tirumurti who was also in charge of Gulf to follow this up," she said.

"There were similar requests for chartered flights from African countries too. Then I persisted officers constantly to take it up to the Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and now all the people requesting this from Saudi Arabia have got confirmation from the ministry and communicated by embassy to those who had requested for the chartered flights," she said.
