Workplace mishap: Indian expat’s body repatriated from UAE to Mangaluru

sathish Mangaluru, Jun 13: The mortal remains of an expatriate worker from Talapady in Mangaluru taluk, who died in workplace mishap in Ras al-Khaimah repatriated thanks to the Indian Cultural Society, UAE.

47-year-old Sathish Bhasker Uchil breathed his last on May 16 after battling for life for several days in hospital. He had suffered severe head injury in a mishap at his workplace.

He was working for a marble company for nearly one year. He is survived by his wife and two children.

After his death his dead body was kept in a mortuary for several days in Ras al-Khaimah.

Karnataka Bandh: Stones pelted on Tirupati-Mangaluru bus in Farangipet

Mangaluru, Feb 13: After pro-Kannada outfits called for a state-wide bandh today, the police are on high-alert to avoid any untoward incidents.

The dawn to dusk bandh was called demanding implementation of Sarojini Mahishi report which recommended certain percentage of jobs to Kannadigas in private & public sector companies.

There is no official holiday declared for schools and colleges. Besides, all government institutions and private establishments are open.

But, in some parts of Karnataka, autorickshaws and taxis, including Ola and Uber stayed off the roads.

Even though the bandh is unlikely to hit normal life in coastal Karnataka, stones were pelted on a Tirupati-Mangaluru bus in Farangipet.

My budget will do the talking: BS Yediyurappa

Mysuru, Jan 27: Chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday refused to field questions on the state’s finances, merely saying his budget on March 5 will do the talking. The question came in the wake of Siddaramaiah, leader of the opposition, claiming recently that the state’s coffers were dry and its finances were in the doldrums.

However, Yediyurappa insisted the state’s finances were sound and it will be better once promises made by the business community during his trip to Davos turn into concrete investment.

“I will present the budget for 2020-21 on March 5. People will then know about the state’s financial position,” Yediyurappa said during a visit to Suttur Mutt on Sunday. “I will answer Siddaramaiah’s comments during the forthcoming budget session of the state legislature. The Davos meet I attended will benefit the state immensely. It will bring huge investments that will promote industry and agriculture growth and various job-generation activities.”
