Udupi, Jan 14: It’s world’s first ‘zero energy’ eco friendly green mosque that has been constructed with adoption of solar passive design and energy-efficient building materials.

Conceptualised and accomplished by the Bearys Group, known for innovative and green architecture in Karnataka, the ultra modern ‘Badria Juma Masjid’ at Kodi in Kundapur taluk will formally be inaugurated on Friday, January 15 in the presence of renowned Islamic scholars of the country.

The Mosque design is an evolution in Islamic architecture integrating epitomized sustainable technologies. An important feature of this green marvel is that its entire energy requirement is met through hybrid renewable energy, both wind and solar.

At a time when the world is passing through climate change crisis, it demonstrates how sustainable developments can help in mitigating global warming. The Mosque also presents a modern face of Islam aiming to promote harmony among all communities. A list of its unique features is attached.

It is our little contribution in India’s march towards Sustainable Development, says Syed Mohamed Beary of Bearys Group and we hope that the Mosque will become a holistic place of worship where people from all over the world will come and pray and find true solace.

Unique Features

Cooling of the building has been achieved by using elements of nature. The building orientation minimizes solar heat gain. The L shaped building plan and elevated nature of prayer hall, green vegetation & water tanks around it offer a naturally cooled environment.

Solar heat reflecting terrace floor laid with white china mosaics & fitted with turbo vents not only keeps the prayer space cool but also reduces warming of local micro climate.

It is practically an open envelope and non-conducting Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) Jallis with over 50% openings, maximize natural ventilation and supplement the design effort to reduce heat gain.

Natural cooling of the building is accentuated by the wind scoop on 70 feet multifunctional Minaret (from where the Azan, the call for prayer is given) which forces down draft of cool breeze into the prayer hall and also supports the tower structure of wind turbine mounted atop it.

Use of Hybrid Renewable Energy i.e. wind & solar in the Mosque will produce more energy than used by the Mosque, thus feeding energy to state grid and accruing (CER) Credits for next 25 years.

Utilized local resources on the principle of “Reduce-Reuse-Recycle-Regenerate” and is equipped with “Pressmatic” TOTO water fixtures to conserve precious water.

Masha Allah Thabarakallah!!!
May Allah protect it from all evils in the society.
Sir syed Beary, you have indeed come up with the innovative concept. may Allah bless u. I would like to request about saving water energy too especially Ablution section in masjids. Our Prophet(saws)was finishing his ablution with 1 small mug but majority of us needs litres of water. So implement some sensor system ablution area.
We as a muslim community are lacking Islamic marriage hall in mangalore. Hall with prayer room, separate seating for gents and ladies. In other halls we need partition. Please include this concept in near future.
May Allah reward you with his immense blessings.

Really appreciable initiative. In fact Muslims elite should concentrate more on innovating mosque and thereby spreading the message of Islam to non Muslims. Mosque should not be confined to prayers. It should be islamic centre and hidaya centre. There should be exclusive facitlty for non muslims (who want to know about Islam) in mosques.

Good initiative. Lesson for Hindus too. We should convert all temples and mutts into eco friendly and noise-less buildings. All the best brothers!

Bengaluru, Apr 18: The Karnataka government has managed to get the contact details of nine out of 10 foreign nationals who had visited Jubilant Life Sciences, a pharmaceutical company in Mysuru district's Nanjangud which has been declared a coronavirus hotspot, State minister S Suresh Kumar said on Saturday.

As many as 66 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Nanjangud.

While investigating the source of virus in what is now known as 'Nanjangud cluster', the Mysuru administration could get information that 10 foreign nationals had visited this town, Kumar told reporters.

Soon the External Affairs Ministry's help was sought which managed to track nine of them, Kumar said, adding that the MEA contacted its embassies in China, Germany, Japan and the USA to track these persons.

"Out of 10, they could contact nine and got details. All of them have said that they were all healthy and they did not have any symptoms.

Hence, they did not feel the need to undergo COVID-19 tests," the minister said.

He opined that many people do not show the symptoms but they could be carriers of the virus.

"It all depends on the person's immunity," Kumar explained.

A foreign national from Germany who had visited Nanjangud could not be reached as her contact details were not available.

New Delhi, Jun 16: The class 10 and 12 students of the CICSE board can choose not to appear for pending board exams and be marked as per their performance in pre-board exams or internal assessment, according to top officials.

The board had also submitted the proposal before the Bombay High Court on Monday in response to a petition filed by a parent seeking directions to the authorities to cancel exams in view of the spike in COVID-19 cases.

According to Gerry Arathoon, Chief Executive and Secretary, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), the students will have to communicate their option to their respective schools by June 22.

The exams which were postponed due to the lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus, are now scheduled to be conducted from July 1 to 14. However, several parents have been demanding the exams be scrapped.

"The students will be given two options---they either appear for the rescheduled exams or choose to have their results based on their performance in the pre-board exams or internal assessment. The option will be available only for the pending exams, the result of the subjects for which exams were already conducted, will be calculated as per performance in the exam only," Arathoon said.

The board also clarified that the students will not be entitled to make a subject-wise choice between the two options for pending exams.

Unlike the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which will only be conducting exams in 29 subjects crucial for promotion and admission to higher educational institutions, the CISCE will be conducting all pending exams.

The pending CBSE exams are scheduled from July 1 to 15. The schedule for the board exams has been decided in order to ensure that they are completed before competitive examinations. While the engineering entrance exam JEE-Mains is scheduled to be held from July 18 to 23, the medical entrance exam NEET is scheduled for July 26.

While the CBSE has given the option to not appear for pending board exams for differently-abled students, it has canceled the examinations for its around 250 schools situated abroad and has adopted the criteria of awarding marks on the basis of either practical exams conducted or the internal assessment marks.

Coronavirus India update: State-wise total number of confirmed cases, deaths on June 16

A group of parents has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the CBSE to declare results on the basis of tests already conducted, and calculate the total on an average basis with internal assessment marks of the remaining subjects.

Universities and schools across the country have been shut since March 16, when the Centre announced a countrywide classroom shut down as part of measures to contain the COVID-19 outbreak. A nationwide lockdown was announced on March 24, which came into effect the next day.

While the government has eased several restrictions, schools and colleges continue to remain closed.

According to Home Ministry guidelines, there will be no exam centres in containment zones.

"Wearing of face masks by teachers, staff and students will be mandatory. There shall be provisions of thermal screening and sanitiser at the centres and social distancing rules will have to be followed at exam centres. Special buses may be arranged by states and UTs for transportation of students to exam centres," the Home Ministry has said.

Mangaluru, Feb 10: Life of a 40–year-old man, who suffered a massive cardiac arrest, was saved by an ambulance driver who covered 80-km distance between Dharmasthala and Mangaluru in just 40 minutes.

The patient, a Chikkaballapur native sustained a heart attack near Sakleshpur on Saturday while he was on his way to Dharmasthala. He was provided preliminary treatment at a private hospital in Ujire, where doctors advised his relatives to shift him to a hospital in Mangaluru immediately.

The patient’s condition was critical and the odds were completely against him. Moreover owing to the ongoing double lane project work, the road too had been dugout. Despite all this, ambulance driver Hameed drove at a fast pace and managed to take the patient to the hospital within 40 minutes.
