Worried about women safety in Karnataka; HDK should pay attention to this issue: Maneka

New Delhi, Jul 13: Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi has alleged that the Karnataka government was "totally ignoring women safety" which was evident from the rising instances of harassment.

"I am worried about how the Karnataka government is totally ignoring women safety in the city. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy should pay attention to this critical issue," Gandhi tweeted.

On Tuesday, a woman who was travelling via Uber was threatened by the driver for not heeding his plea to cancel the trip.

In the last one month, there have been two more cases where women passengers had faced harassment while travelling with taxi aggregators in Bengaluru.

"This is the third case of harassment of a woman passenger by a cab driver in Bengaluru, in less than a month. My directions to the Bengaluru Police Commissioner to invoke criminal liability of cab aggregators like Olacabs and Uber has had no effect," she wrote.

Expressing her concerns over women safety, Maneka Gandhi had earlier written to Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and urged him to ensure that cab companies adhere to all safety guidelines.

Madam i think you have very incorrect & false information about this, in fact, women is not at all safe in all BJP ruling states across India. please dont blame Karnataka is healthy in this case. I can challenge you that Karnataka is much safer than any other in this specific matter.

Did you travel by this Bengaluru-Mangaluru bus on March 21? Visit hospital now itself!

Mangaluru, Mar 28: After a youth from Dakshina Kannada who tested positive for the deadly Covid-19 revealed that he had travelled by a bus, authorities have requested all his fellow passengers to visit their nearest district hospital.

The 21-year-old man hailing from Belthangady taluk had flown from Dubai to Bengaluru on March 21 and on the same day travelled to Mangaluru by the KSRTC bus bearing registration number KA 19, F3329.

As he was suffering from fever and cough he was admitted to Puttur government hospital on March 24. He was tested positive for the novel coronavirus on March 27.

It is not yet know how many passengers were there on board the above mentioned bus which had departed Bengaluru at 4:30 p.m. on March 21. It is believed that most of the passengers who travelled by this bus are residents of Dakshina Kannada.

Hence, the KSRTC authorities today requested all the passengers who travelled by this bus to visit their nearest district hospital for necessary checkup. The passengers also were urged to quarantine themselves for next couple of weeks.

Help poor, needy by not cutting their salaries: Karnataka CM

Bengaluru, Apr 4: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has appealed to employers not to cut salaries of their maids, servants and drivers who are unable to attend work due to the current lockdown situation in the country.

He said compassionate gesture of employers will support the poor and needy.

"I request all the employers not to cut salaries of their maids, servants, drivers etc., who are not able to work due to social distancing. Your compassionate gesture will support the poor and needy to overcome this hard time. FightBackKarnataka CoronavirusPandemic," the Chief Minister said in a tweet.

Family of 11 tests positive for corona in Hosapete, Karnataka

Ballari, Apr 18: Hosapete town in Ballari district of Karnataka gasped in disbelief as it turned out that 11 members of one single family are positive for the coronavirus.

The whole town has been declared a containment zone and is being surveilled 24X7.

The family includes seven members whose tests returned positive today, three who tested Covid-19 positive on March 30 and one other member subsequently.

The seven who tested positive today had been negative when they were earlier tested along with the others.

They have all now been shifted to isolation wards at the District Hospital in Ballari.

Including this family of 11, Ballari has 13 positive cases so far, with one case each reported from Ballari and Siraguppa towns.

Startled by this sudden upsurge from Hosapete, the district administration has set up 16 fever clinics to screen people and six COVID care centres to treat positive cases. There are two dedicated COVID hospitals, one at Ballari and another at Torangallu in Sandur.

A team of psychological counsellors have been put on duty to provide support to the patients at the isolation centres.
