Writer, thinker, entrepreneur, philanthropist Abdul Raheem Teekay passes away at 65

Mangaluru, Feb 15: Abdul Raheem Teekay, a well-known writer, thinker, activist and advocate of communal amity in coastal Karnataka passed away after a brief illness today at his residence in the city.

The 65-year-old philanthropist is survived by his wife, two children, four brothers and a large number of relatives, friends and fans.

A tweet-heart and social media enthusiast who always tried to bridge gaps between people, Raheem Teekay was a successful businessman and managing director of Teekays Corporate Concepts Pvt Ltd.

His writings in Kannada and Beary languages have earned him many fans. He translated Paulo Coelho’s international bestseller The Alchemist into Kannada. It was released as Rasavadi in 2015. His anthology of Beary poems Mallige Balli was released in 2014. His several English articles were published on coastaldigest.com too.

He was one of the pioneers of Beary literary and cultural movement. He was the founder president of Kendra Beary Sahitya Parishat.

Born in Jokatte as the second son of Bava Abdul Khader and Salma couple, Raheem Teekay was brought up in Bajpe. For past several decades he was residing in Mangaluru city. By establishing Salma Bava Foundation, he has helped hundreds of children from poor families in coastal Karnataka.

A rare human being. In spite of all his social service, philanthropic activities and social media engagements, he spent most of his time with his family members. His demise is a big loss to all who know him.

Mangaluru, Jul 5: A COVID-19 patient escaped from a hospital in Mangaluru on Sunday, Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Vikas Kumar.

A total of 1,925 cases of COVID-19 and 37 deaths recorded in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 23,474.

The health department informed that the death toll rose to 372 while active cases stood at 13,251 in the state.

According to the Union Health Ministry, India has recorded 6,73,165 numbers of COVID-19 cases and 19,268 deaths.

New Delhi, Feb 12: The Centre on Wednesday said the NRC data in Assam is safe even though some technical issues were visible and that will be resolved soon.

The Union Home Ministry clarification came in view of reports that data of the final list of the National Register of Citizens has been made offline from its official website.

"The NRC data is safe. Some technical issues are in visibility on cloud. These are being resolved soon," a home ministry spokesperson said.

The data was not available for a couple of days and it created panic in the public, mostly among the people excluded from the list as the rejection certificates were yet to be issued.

NRC State Coordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma accepted that the data has been made offline, but refuted the allegation of any "malafide" intent in it.

The cloud service for the huge set of data was provided by IT firm Wipro and their contract was till October 19 last year. However, this was not renewed by the previous coordinator.

So, the data got offline from December 15 after it was suspended by Wipro, Sarma said.

He said the state coordination committee had decided to do necessary formalities in its meeting on January 30 and wrote to the Wipro during the first week of February.

"Once Wipro makes the data live, it will be available for public. We hope people will be able to access it in the next 2-3 days," Sarma said.

The complete detail of exclusion and inclusion of bonafide Indian citizens in the NRC was uploaded on its official website http://www.nrcassam.nic.in after the final list was published on August 31, 2019.

The final NRC was published by excluding 19,06,657 persons. A total of 3,11,21,004 names were included out of 3,30,27,661 applicants.

After the earlier NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela relinquished the charge on November 11 following his transfer to home state Madhya Pradesh on a direction from the Supreme Court, Sarma was appointed in his place on November 9.

New Delhi, Jul 31: With the highest single-day spike of 55,079 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, India's coronavirus tally breached the 16 lakh mark on Friday, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With this latest spike, the total cases in the country stand at 16,38,871. Among these cases 5,45,318 are active. A total of 10,57,806 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated.

779 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 35,747.

As per the Union Health Ministry, Maharashtra has a total of 1,48,454 active cases and recorded 14,729 deaths due to COVID-19.
Tamil Nadu has a total of 57,962 active cases and 3,838 deaths in the state.

Delhi has a total of 10,743 active cases and 3,936 deaths.

The Indian Council of Medical Research on Friday informed that a total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to 30th July is 1,88,32,970 including 6,42,588 samples tested yesterday.
