Already, six members had been elected to the eleven-member Board from different electoral colleges.

The Board now comprises MP K Rahman Khan, Bangalore (elected from MP constituency), Qamrul Islam, Gulbarga, and Tanveer Sait, Mysore (both MLA's constituency), R Abdul Reyaz, Bangalore (from Bar Council constituency), Dr Mohammed Yousuff, Bangalore, and Syed Shah Khusro Hussaini, Gulbarga (both from Muthuvalli constituency), besides the members nominated by the Government.

The Government nominees include Yenepoya Mohammed Kunhi, Secretary of Yenepoya Educational Institutions, Mangalore, N Noor Basha, Joint Secretary Ghousiya Education Minority Society, Bellary, Mr N K M Shafi Saadi, Principal Secretary of Saadiya Educational Foundation, Bangalore (Sunni scholar category), Syed Mohammed Ibrahim, Bangalore (Shia scholar category), and H S Ismathulla Khan, Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Bangalore.

The Chairman of the reconstituted Board will be elected from among the members. The date for the election of the Chairman has not been decided yet.

It may be mentioned here that the State Government had superseded Board in November 2009 charges of alleged financial irregularities. The then Minister for Haj, Wakf and Minorities Welfare Mumtaz Ali Khan had cited continuing irregularities in the functioning of the Board as the reason for superseding it.

However, the process to reconstitute the Board began following High Court directions to the effect on June 20, 2011.

According to a notification from the Government, the eleven members, including the elected and nominated ones, will hold office for a period of five years.

New Delhi, Mar 21: Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister B. Sriramulu on Saturday informed that one more person was tested positive for the coronavirus in the state.

He said that a total of 16 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the state so far.

The victim had come from Mecca and was kept in quarantine facility by the state authorities.

"For a 32-year-old man, who had just returned from a trip to Mecca has found COVID-19 positive. The infection has been confirmed. He has already been treated at an isolated ward of the hospital. Citizens must not have any sort of anxiety," tweeted Sriramulu.

Also, the news and public relations department, the Indian Red Cross Society and the Karnataka State Labour Studies Institute have invited volunteers for the programme to provide real-time information to people to avoid spreading rumours and misinformation about coronavirus.

At least four volunteers will work in four shifts per day in each taluk of the state. There are about 120 volunteers in Bengaluru city and about 3,000 Corona Warriors are expected to register from across the state. Over 400 volunteers have registered via online application on the first day.

Bengaluru, Mar 22: The Karnataka government on Sunday afternoon announced that 9 districts in the State will be under lock down till March 31, barring essential services. It also announced imposition of Section 144 across the state for 3 hours - between 9 p.m. (when the "Janata curfew" will end) to 12 midnight.

The nine COVID-19-affected districts are Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada (Mangaluru), Dharwad, Belagavi, Kalaburgi and Chikkablapur.

Announcing these measures after attending a meeting chaired by Chief Minister B. S Yeddyurappa, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that there will be no commercial activity in these districts till March 31.

Inter-district movement, including public transport will be restricted. "Public transport will not work across the state tomorrow too. Air conditioned buses will be stopped till March 31," he added. He also clarified that while public transport, including KSRTC, BMTC and Namma Metro, will be withdrawn, private transport services such as cabs and autos will continue to ply.

According to Mr. Bommai, the State government will put in place further measures next week depending on how the situation will unfold in the State and the neighbouring States.

"Government offices will be operational in the State, including in the nine COVID 19-affected districts. As per the current schedule, the legislature sessions will also continue. Pourakarmikas will be working at 50% strength," he added.
