Yeddy calls Rahul a 'bachcha', says Cong chief’s Karnataka visit has ensured BJP’s win

Feb 21: Days after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a dig at Congress president Rahul Gandhi by saying that his becoming opposition party chief would bring good luck to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a similar comment has been made by former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa.

Targeting the Gandhi scion over his recent visit to poll-bound Karnataka, for BJP strongman referred to him as ‘bachcha’ (kid). He said that the Congress president’s visit to Karnataka would ensure more than 150 seats for the BJP.

“By bringing that ‘bachcha’ to in Karnataka, we now know that we will win more than 150 seats here,” ANI quoted Yeddyurappa as saying.

Earlier this month, Yeddyurappa had mocked Rahul Gandhi by calling him an “election Hindu”. He had said then as well that arrival of Rahul Gandhi in Karnataka will only bring good fortunes for the saffron party. He further said that Rahul Gandhi's campaign in Karnataka will only fulfil BJP's dream of a "Congress Mukt Karnataka".

"I heartily welcome #ElectionHindu @OfficeOfRG to Ballari. The #Congress President will fulfil our dream of a #CongressMuktKarnataka," Yeddyurappa had posted on microblogging site Twitter.

Stating that Congress has faced huge setbacks and BJP has won wherever Rahul Gandhi has campaigned in the past, BSY said, "His arrival is like arrival of good fortune for BJP."

Rahul Gandhi had visited Karnataka in February itself and addressed several rallies and public meetings in different parts of the state. He had reportedly travelled in the state by a special bus and was accompanied by senior leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge and Veerappa Moily. He had visited Raichur, Yadagiri and Gulbarga districts, among others.

One highlight of his event was a ‘pakoda’ break that he took during the tour with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other senior leaders. He took the pakoda break, pictures of which went viral, in Kalmala village of Raichur district.

Mangaluru, May 23: Domestic flight services will resume from Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) from May 25 as per the instructions of Union Civil Aviation Ministry. Six Indigo and SpiceJet flights will be operated from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, Mumbai and Chennai.

Air-India is yet to finalise its schedule, airport sources said. Three Indigo flights will depart from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, Mumbai and Chennai and three flights of SpiceJet will leave for Bengaluru and Mumbai on May 25.

SpiceJet flight will take off from Bengaluru to Mangaluru at 8.30 am and7 pm while Indigo will take off from Mangaluru to Bengaluru at 5.55 pm. SpiceJet flight will take off from Mangaluru at 10.20 am and 9.35 pm while Indigo will depart at 7.30 pm.

From Mumbai, Spice Jet flight will take off at 7.05 am and Indigo at 9.30 am. The Mangaluru-Mumbai SpiceJet flight will take off at 9.05 am and Indigo at 11.40 am. Indigo flight will depart from Chennai to Mangaluru at 5.45 pm and from Mangaluru to Chennai at 8.05 am.

Mangaluru, Aug 7: Coronavirus surge in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi today at 411  with with Udupi tallying 245 fresh cases and DK 166. 

A dozen deaths also reported from the twin districts. While DK reported seven fatalities, Udupi recorded five deaths. 

With this, Dakshina Kannada district's Covid-19 tally increased to 6,881 and the total number of deaths increased to 208. 

While the district has 3,369 active cases as on date, the day also saw 188 people getting discharged from hospitals. As many as 3,304 persons were discharged in the district so far. 

Out of seven deaths reported in Dakshina Kannada on Friday, five were from Mangaluru taluk and one each from Puttur and Belthangady taluks.

Meanwhile, out of 245 new coronavirus cases reported in Udupi on Friday, 175 are asymptomatic and 86 have no specific contact history. With this, the total number of cases in Udupi increased to 5,605, which includes 2,292 active cases. 

Udupi also reported five fatalities including a female victim, taking the district’s death toll to 55. Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said all the five victims were also suffering from various comorbidities. Udupi district has collected Rs 1,43,300 as penalty from people for violating rules related to social distancing and mask till August 6.

New Delhi, Jan 19: Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Sunday asserted that every state assembly has the constitutional right to pass a resolution and seek the amended Citizenship Act's withdrawal, but if the law is declared constitutional by the Supreme Court then it will be problematic to oppose it.

His remarks came a day after he had said there is no way a state can deny the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) when it is already passed by the Parliament.

"I believe the CAA is unconstitutional. Every State Assembly has the constitutional right to pass a resolution and seek its withdrawal. When and if the law is declared to be constitutional by the Supreme Court then it will be problematic to oppose it. The fight must go on!" Sibal said in a tweet.

His remarks on the CAA at the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) on Saturday had caused a flutter as several non-BJP governments, including Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Maharashtra, have voiced their disagreement with the CAA as well as National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).

"If the CAA is passed no state can say 'I will not implement it'. It is not possible and is unconstitutional. You can oppose it, you can pass a resolution in the Assembly and ask the central government to withdraw it.

"But constitutionally saying that I won't implement, it is going to be problematic and going to create more difficulties," said the former minister of law and justice.
