Davangere, May 30: Questioning the contribution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to the welfare of AHINDA (Kannada acronym for minorities, backward classes and Dalits) communities, Bharatiya Janata Party State president B. S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday demanded that Mr. Siddaramaiah come out with the statistics of what he has done for their welfare as he claims that he is an AHINDA CM.

Speaking at the Vikas Parva rally organised by the BJP to mark the second anniversary of the NDA government at the Centre, Mr. Yeddyurappa appealed to people of the State to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's endeavour to free the country from the Congress.

He said in the last two years the Centre has made sincere efforts to give transparent administration and there are no complaints of misuse of funds by any minister.

“The PM has worked without taking leave for a single day. This shows the commitment that he has to the people of the nation,” he added.

Mr. Modi had convened a meeting of the CMs of all the drought-affected States. But the CM is trying to mislead people by issuing false statements that the Centre has not released funds, he alleged.

Union Law Minister D. V. Sadananda Gowda maintained that the image of the country has changed in the entire world owing to the efforts of Mr. Modi. In the last two years, the Centre has given prominence to financial discipline and financial inclusion.

Owing to these steps, the GDP of the country has increased to 7.6 per cent from 7.4 per cent in the last two years. Former BJP State president Pralhad Joshi said as per a recent survey conducted by a few media houses, the NDA government is gaining popularity and it will again come to power in the next elections.

Alleging that corruption was on the rise in the State, Mr. Joshi remarked that the CM has decided to completely finish off the Congress in the State. Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar alleged that the State Congress leaders have developed a tendency to blame the Centre for everything.

Former Minister R. Ashok stated that after 20 months the State will go for elections and the Vikas Parva rally at Davangere is the beginning of the fight to make Karnataka Congress -free.

Bengaluru, Jul 26: Paying tributes to the martyrs of Kargil war on its 21st anniversary, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Sunday said his government always stood by the soldiers and families of those who laid down their lives to protect the borders of the country.

"The government is always committed to the welfare of the soldiers. Karnataka has formed a separate department for the welfare of the soldiers and their families. We always stand with the families of the martyred soldiers," he said. He was addressing soldiers after paying tributes to the martyrs of the Kargil war at an official function organised on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas at the National Military Memorial Park in the city by the Sainik Welfare and Resettlement Department under the state Home Department.

Yediyurappa described as a symbol of India's valour and sacrifices the Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed to commemorate its victory over Pakistan in the war that ended on July 26, 1999 with recapture of the territory in Kargil. He said the state government has given due compensation to the families of the Kargil martyrs and the soldiers who were injured.

Recalling the conflict, Yediyurappa said Pakistan had set its eyes on grabbing the vast terrains of Kargil and Drass sector in Jammu and Kashmir but the Indian soldiers successfully fought a deadly battle at a height of 17,000 feet where the temperature goes up to minus 30 degrees celsius.

"The sacrifices of our soldiers will remain etched in our memories forever. The tale of the 527 soldiers, who sacrificed their lives to save our country, is a constant source of inspiration for our youth," the Chief Minister said. He also noted Karnataka's contributions to the Indian army and said the state had given two Generals, one Field Marshall, many army officers and innumerable soldiers to protect the country's borders.
