Udupi, Feb 11: Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa loves and cares people, but incumbent chief minister Siddaramaiah is arrogant and corrupt, who lacks ethics, according to BJP leader and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, she alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah can go to any extent for vote bank gimmicks. "He has no ethics. The Congress government has failed utterly to offer pro-people governance," she claimed.

The BJP leaders, including former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, will be stay in slums in different parts of the state. The problems of the slum dwellers will be brought to the notice of the state government, she added.

She ridiculed that Congress government has failed to provide basic infrastructure facilities to the people in slums. There are nearly 2,500 slums in state, she said.

Karandalaje said that she is the first MP to get Rs 316 crore sanctioned under Central Road Funds (CRF) - Rs 133 crore was earmarked for Udupi and Rs 183 crore for Chikkamagaluru district for the year 2017-18. Earlier, Udupi received Rs 182 crore and Chikkamagaluru received 44.5 crore under CRF in the year 2016-17, she said.

She said she has raised the issue with the Union Transport Minister Nithin Gadkari over the slow workson the proposed Malpe-Athradi-Theerthalli national highway.

Regarding the incomplete work of the national highway at Padubidri junction, the MP said that the land acquisition in the area is pending and the deputy commissioner has been directed to complete the formalities at the earliest.

On the BJP's preparedness for the upcoming Assembly election, the MP said that the BJP is working tirelessly to revamp in all possible ways to counter the Congress.

She said the party's leaders, who are popular among the masses, are considered for the party tickets to contest and the party has been strengthened right from the booth level.

Awareness will be created on the failure of the Congress-led government among the voters, she charged.

Coming down heavily on AICC President Rahul Gandhi's state tour, she said, "Rahul Gandhi has finally realised the worth of God in his life. He has started the campaign from the constituency in Karnataka, wherein the candidate Anand Singh has also served the jail term, much to the dismay of Congress leaders who always censure BJP leaders for serving the jail term."

She said BJP national president Amit Shah will be visit the temple town after taking part in various programmes scheduled in Dakshina Kannada on February 20.

Mangaluru, Mar 9: A person who arrived at the airport in Mangaluru from Dubai and was admitted to the isolation ward of a hospital with symptoms of coronavirus has gone missing, sources said.

The patient, who arrived on Sunday, was shifted to the district Wenlock hospital with a high fever and a few symptoms of coronavirus.

He reportedly argued with the hospital staff late in the night that he had not contracted the virus and left the hospital saying he will take treatment in a private hospital.

The hospital health officer called up the police and a high alert has been sounded in coastal districts to locate the person who has 'escaped' from the hospital.

Dakshina Kannada district health officer Sikandar Pasha had earlier said the patient will be kept under observation for 24 hours and will be discharged after routine tests.

The district health department on Monday lodged a complaint with the Mangaluru police station and investigation is on.

Mangaluru, Jun 14: In a fresh case of vigilante attack, a cattle trader was tied to a buffalo-laden vehicle and thrashed by the miscreants belonging to Bajrang Dal in the city today.

The victim has been identified as Mohammad Haneef Guddemane (34), a resident of Jokatte village on the outskirts of the city.

The attack took place in the early morning near Infosys office at Urva, when Haneef was transporting his four buffalos to Kudroli slaughter house.

The miscreants continued to thrash him until the local police reached spot. Based on the complaint of ‘illegal cattle transportation’ by the Bajrang Dal, the police took the victim to custody and also seized the buffalos.

The police also took the victim to hospital and subjected him to covid test before producing him before a local judge.

While the Bajrang Dal members lodged complaint of illegal transpiration against the victim, the victim showed all the records of the cattle and lodged a counter complaint against the attackers.

It is learnt that Haneef had purchased 10 cattle from Haveri district and sold six among them. He was transporting remaining four buffalos to Kudroli slaughter house.

Thrissur, Mar 7: A local temple in Kerala is at the centre of a social media storm after the picture of a ''Brahmins-only toilet'' outside its main campus went viral on online platforms, prompting the management to remove the signboard.

The picture of three toilets, with signboards showing "Men", "Women" and "Brahmins", at the Kuttumukku Mahadeva Temple in Thrissur, has gone viral with many social media users viewing it as an unethical practise that can portray the progressive state in a bad light.

However, temple officials said the toilets were located outside the main campus and the board was brought to their notice only now.

Kannan, an official of the temple committee, said the board was placed nearly two decades ago and nobody raised any complaint against it so far.

"That particular toilet was being used by priests and other temple employees. We didn't even notice that board... As soon as we came to know about it, we removed it and affixed a staff-only board," he told PTI.

Also a CPI-M functionary and ward councillor, Kannan said the shrine and it's management was against all kinds of unethical customs.

The temple official said they were planning to pursue legal measures against the man who posted the photo of the toilets on social media.

"We suspect that he did it deliberately to create issues during the time of the festival and to tarnish the shrine's reputation. Not only that, the photo he shared was an old one though he claimed that it was taken during the time of the festival, " he said.
