Yemen: Around 40 killed, dozens injured in twin attacks

Aden, Aug 1: As many as 40 people were killed and dozens were injured in two attacks in Aden on Thursday.

The first attack was claimed by Iran-backed Houthis, who targeted a military parade at a camp in the city by launching a drone carrying explosives and a missile. It also claimed the life of a commander of the support forces, Brigadier Munir Al Yafi, Gulf News reported quoting Al-Arabiya.

The second attack was a car bombing targeting a police station in Aden's district of Shaikh Othman. The blast killed three persons and left 30 others injured, according to Al-Arabiya TV.

No group claimed responsibility for this attack.

The Houthis seized control of much of the northern parts of Yemen, including capital Sanaa, in September 2014, forcing the internationally recognised government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi into exile in Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have been leading an Arab military coalition against the Houthis in support of the Hadi government over the last four years.

Washington, May 20: The United States recorded another 1,536 coronavirus deaths over the past 24 hours, the Johns Hopkins University tracker said.

That figure, tallied as of 8:30 pm (0030 GMT), raises to 91,845 the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the US.

The US tops the global rankings both for the highest death toll and the highest number of infections, with more than 1.5 million cases.

Washington, Jul 5: US President Donald Trump on Saturday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his wishes on America's 244th Independence Day.

On Saturday, PM Modi tweeted: "I congratulate @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and the people of the USA on the 244th Independence Day of the USA. As the world's largest democracies, we cherish freedom and human enterprise that this day celebrates. @WhiteHouse"

While replying to PM Modi's wishes, Mr Trump tweeted: "Thank you my friend. America loves India!"

The US President also attended the July 4 American Independence Day celebrations in South Dakota.

New Delhi, Jun 11: Petrol and diesel prices on Thursday were hiked by 60 paise per litre each - the fifth straight daily increase in rates since oil PSUs ended an 82-day hiatus in rate revision.

Petrol price in Delhi was hiked to Rs 74 per litre from Rs 73.40 while diesel rates were increased to Rs 72.22 a litre from Rs 71.62, according to a price notification of state oil marketing companies.

Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or VAT.

This is the fifth daily increase in rates in a row since oil companies on Sunday restarted revising prices in line with costs, after ending an 82-day hiatus.

In five hikes, petrol price has gone up by Rs 2.74 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.83.
