Yenepoya School kids to attend int’l conference at United Nations

Mangaluru, Aug 9: A team of six students and a mentor from The Yenepoya School, Jeppina Mogaru, Mangaluru has been selected for participating in the upcoming IIMUN (Indian International Model United Nations) USA 2017 Conference.

Shoaib Shiek Mohammed of Grade 10th, Anjali Maria Augustine, Caroline Castelino, Dhruv K. Shah of Grade 9th and Ilhan Irfan, Vaishnavi Rao of Grade 8th are the students who are participating in the conference.  They will be accompanied by Mrs Mercy Rego, their teacher and mentor.

The conference will see the participation of students from various parts of India and will be organized inside the United Nations Headquarters at New York during the month of August. The itinerary of the students includes three days of MUN conference and an educational trip in the USA where they will be visiting New York, Washington D. C. and Orlando.

The students will discuss various international affairs and issues and provide novel solutions for them. It is a platform for the children to debate on issues of social and economic importance and reach out for solutions.

Bengaluru, Jun 19: Congress leaders BK Hariprasad and Naseer Ahmed filed their nominations as party candidates for Legislative Council elections in Bengaluru and KPCC chief DK Shivakumar said that the two leaders have been given ticket to strengthen the party with their guidance.

"The Legislative Council means the Upper House and the Elders House. We have unanimously agreed to select and send these two senior leaders to discuss the party organization and various issues of the state in Legislative Council. There were plenty of aspirants to enter the Upper House. But it is decided to elect these two leaders and they will contest the election," Shivakumar said.

"We need seniority to guide us... That's the reason we are selecting these leaders... The high command has given these senior leaders the opportunity to discuss with all our leaders about strengthening the party," he added.

The elections are scheduled to be held on June 29.

Bengaluru, Apr 18: With 12 fresh cases of the COVID-19 infection, including one woman, the total number of novel coronavirus cases in Karnataka surged to 371 on Saturday.

The sources said that as many as three new positive cases were reported from Mysuru district, followed by two each from Kalaburagi, Bhagalkote, one each case from Vijayapura, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag and Mandya, districts on Saturday.

Bengaluru, Mar 15: The Karnataka government has intensified screening all international passengers at airports by classifying them into three risk categories.

Passengers, who are symptomatic on arrival fall under risk category 1, those aged above 60 and have Symptoms fall under category 2. Those who fall in both these categories are being quarantined at designated facilities for 14 days from arrival.

Asymptomatic passengers arriving from any of the COVID-19 affected countries will fall under category 3 and will be advised to be under strict home quarantine for 14 days, Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said here on Sunday.
