Yes, I kicked elderly man; it's a small incident: BJP MP Radadiya

March 30, 2016

Ahmedabad, Mar 30: Controversial BJP MP Vitthal Radadiya today "admitted" to kicking an elderly man during a music event recently but clarified that he did so to stop the man from "spreading superstition" even as he termed it as a "small incident".

bjpHis clarification came days after a video purportedly showing the Porbandar MP kicking the man at the function, held at Jamkandorna town in Rajkot district, surfaced.

The video showed agitated Radadiya approaching the man sitting in a makeshift tent at the folk music event and then kicking him even as the latter prayed to be spared.
The video also showed Radadiya picking up the man's belongings and gesturing him to leave the spot.

"That man was spreading superstition, as he was continuously shaking his head and body when artists were singing. His act also disturbed many others, including women, as they felt uncomfortable due to his weird acts," Radadiya said.

He had earlier denied the attack.

"I am told by the organisers that he has been living in the tent since last three-four days. To stop him from disturbing others through his strange acts, I kicked him first and asked the organisers to take him out. After he was taken away, people felt relieved. It was a small incident," he said.

Though no FIR has been filed by the unidentified man against Radadiya, Rajkot police yesterday took the matter suo motu and started their investigation and sent the video for forensic analysis.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat High Court today ordered an "independent investigation" by police into an alleged assault by Radadiya and others of a shop-owner at Dhoraji in Rajkot district last year.

Radadiya, then a Congress MP, had rented out a shop at Dhoraji to Sharifbhai Shakariyana, a party worker.

On October 12 last year, Radadiya and his men allegedly beat up Rajesh Mehta, who ran the shop on Shakariyana's behalf, to get it vacated.

When Mehta approached the police, they only registered a non-cognisable offence and not an FIR.

Bellary, Jan 4: A BJP MLA has apparently threatened 'minority' Muslims against participating in anti-CAA protests, saying that opposing the new Citizenship Act will not be good for them and they will have to face serious repercussions.

"It's just a caution for those who are protesting against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act). We are 80 per cent and you (Muslims) are 18 per cent. Imagine what will happen if we take charge," MLA Somashekar Reddy told a gathering here on Friday.

"Beware of the majority when you live in this country. This is our country. If you want to live here, you will have to, like the Australian Prime Minister said, follow the country's traditions," he added.

He said: "So, I warn you that CAA and NRC are made by Modi and Amith Shah. If you will go against these acts, it won't be good."

Continuing to spew venom, the MLA further said, "If you wish, you can go to Pakistan. We don't have any issues. Intentionally, we would not send you."

He said that the community should live in harmony with Hindus. "If you will act as enemies, we should also react like enemies," he said.

Earlier, Bengaluru BJP MP Tejaswi Surya reportedly called CAA opposers as "puncturewalas".

The nation has been witnessing massive protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). But Prime Minister Narendra Modi has specifically stated that the NRC was never discussed.

Bengaluru, Feb 26: Karnataka Police and intelligence have been asked to be on alert in the wake of communal violence in Delhi and take preemptive measures, state Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said here on Wednesday.

"We have been keeping a close watch on the developments after the Delhi incident. I have instructed my officers to be on alert and take precautionary actions rather than actions after the incidents," Bommai told media.

"The day before yesterday we had a high-level meeting...we are having a close watch," he added.

Violence erupted in Delhi on Sunday evening after groups protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and those supporting it indulged in stone pelting at each other.

The confrontation soon turned communal and the violence spread to other areas of northeast Delhi including Chand Bagh, Mustafabad, Brijpuri, Shiv Vihar and Noor Ilahi on Monday and Tuesday in which at least 20 persons, including a police head constable, have died and over 200 have been injured.
