Yes, Modi govt targeting Vokkaligas, but it can’t fix me in any case: HDK

Bengaluru, Sept 12: Former Chief Minister, H D Kumaraswamy who has come out in support of senior Congress leader, D K Shivakumar, in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate, claiming that the Centre is targeting Vokkaligas, however, did not attend the rally taken out in protest against his arrest by the community in the city on Wednesday.

Instead of being at the rally, Mr Kumaraswamy participated in a teachers’ felicitation programme and attended a KDP meeting in Channapatna during the day.

While according to some Janata Dal (S) party workers he intentionally avoided the rally because it made Mr Shivakumar out to be the hero of the Vokkaligas  when he considered JD (S) supremo, H D Deve Gowda its supreme leader, Mr  Kumaraswamy himself clarified that he would have attended it had he been invited.

“However, my party workers and leaders participated in the programme,” he told reporters.

His close confidantes too claimed that Mr Kumaraswamy had genuinely buried differences with Mr Shivakumar and would have attended the rally had the organisers invited him.

On rumours that he will be arrested soon, Kumaraswamy said “They can’t fix me in any case.” He asserted that all attempts to harass him had ended in failure as he had nothing to hide. “Nobody can touch me because I have not done anything wrong,” he declared.

Kochi, Mar 30: Kerala High Court, while hearing a petition filed against Karnataka's decision to block the border with Kerala, on Monday said that no lives should not be lost in the name of fighting coronavirus.

Kerala High Court also said that "the current problem should be resolved amicably. Both the Union government and the Karnataka government should rise to the occasion."
The Central government has informed Kerala High Court that the movement of goods and medical services qualify under essential services, which is permitted despite the lockdown, and added that directions have been issued to give priority to the movement of such goods and services.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has sought a day's time to clarify their stand.

The matter will be taken up for further hearing via video conference tomorrow.
Kerala government has submitted that the action of Karnataka government to close the border is illegal as all the national highways in the country come under the jurisdiction of the National Highway Authority.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Rajmohan Unnithan has also approached the Supreme Court seeking directions to open the Karnataka-Kerala border to allow movement of ambulances and other emergency vehicles for the transport of essential items to Kerala.

Mangaluru, Apr 4: The chemistry department of National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NIT-K) here has started producing hand sanitizers in view of its shortage in the market after the coronavirus outbreak.

The social initiative led by Arun Isloor, professor and head of the department, was launched by NIT-K director K Uma Maheshwar Rao.

The raw materials needed for this product were provided by the institute.

Bengaluru, May 1: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on the occasion of International Labour Day has appealed to migrant workers in the state to stay back and co-operate with it in resuming economic activities once the Central government issues further directions.

"It is my sincere request to all the migrant workers to stay back in the state and co-operate with us to resume the economic activities once we receive directions from Union Government," Yediyurappa said in a release issued by the CMO.

"COVID-19 situation in India is much better than other countries because of people's cooperation.

We intend to resume economic activities soon. The government has already held a meeting with representatives of associations of commerce and industry in this regard. The government has also appealed to the employers to protect the interest of their workers and pay salaries," he added.

The ongoing nationwide lockdown, imposed to contain the coronavirus spread, is scheduled to end on May 3.
