Bengaluru, Jun 20: People will see the Congress-JD(S) coalition government’s work in full swing in another three months time, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said on Tuesday.

“We’ll prove ourselves with action and implementation, not just with speeches,” Kumaraswamy told reporters during an interaction here. “In three months, you’ll be able to see the government’s long-term vision at work.”

Kumaraswamy said not a single minister in the government was wasting any time by staying in Bengaluru. “They’re out there reviewing their departments. Our government will not be complacent or forgetful,” he said, adding that he wanted to restart his popular Grama Vastavya initiative.

That the Congress was yet to fill up six Cabinet positions out of its quota of 22 would not come in the way of the government’s functioning, the chief minister said. “We’re 25 ministers now. The government is working effectively. There was a time when only three ministers ran the show,” he said, referring to former chief minister R Gundu Rao’s time.

Kumaraswamy reiterated his commitment toward waiving farmers’ loans. “I know a loan waiver isn’t the remedy. The waiver will not stop farmers from committing suicide, but it must be done. What I want to do is revamp the way farmers do agriculture. Similarly, I want to bring about reforms in the education, health and housing sectors,” he said. The government will, in a couple of days, hold a meeting with heads of nationalised banks to discuss the loan waiver.

He said he planned to present his budget in the first or second week of July. “I will convene a Cabinet meeting to discuss the budget session.”

On what transpired in his meeting with Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Kumaraswamy said: “I did not complain against any Congress leader when I met him. I took his advice on many things. That’s all.”

Kumaraswamy revealed that his own staff were resisting his demand for a cut in his motorcade and security detail. “Also, I’ve decided to fly in a commercial flight as much as possible. Flying in a private plane will cost Rs 38 lakh, whereas commercial is just Rs 1 lakh. I can use the Rs 37 lakh to develop a village,” he said.

Bengaluru, Apr 18: Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar on Saturday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deposit at least Rs 10,000 in bank accounts of people belonging to the unorganised sector.

"The unorganised sector comprises barbers, dhobi, cooks, carpenters, sweepers, drivers and autorickshaw drivers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not mention anything about giving subsistence to these people," Shivakumar, told ANI, referring to the Prime Minister's address earlier this week.

Modi had announced the extension of the ongoing nationwide lockdown till May 3 in order to curb the spread of coronavirus.

"I appeal to Prime Minister Modi to register the members of the unregistered sector under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) or deposit at least Rs 10,000 to the bank accounts of each of the members of unorganised sector to help them survive the lockdown," he added.

Though the Congress party will continue the central government and state government's fight against coronavirus, he said, both the governments need to help people who are part of the unorganised sector.

"The farmers have told me that due to the lockdown they are ready to sell the vegetables, which once used to be sold at Rs 100 per kg, at even Rs 5 per kg," he said.

Speaking on the suggestions he made to Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Shivakumar said, "I requested the Chief Minister to send a team to do a videograph and make an assessment of the on-ground situation. However, till now, no one has gone."

Assan, Feb 9: Coming down heavily on Amit Shah, JDS supremo HD Deve Gowda said that the Union Home Minister is dreaming of a Hindu nation. Addressing the crowd at an anti-CAA/NRC rally in Hassan, he said that the Home Minister has forgotten that India is a secular, multi-lingual country.

“Shah cannot make India into a Hindu nation. People should come forward and oppose the Acts in the interest of peace and welfare of the nation,” the former PM said, urging secular leaders to unite and fight against the undemocratic policies put forth by the Centre.

“Only secular forces can protect minorities by taking to the streets,” he said. Talking about the controversy around former Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde’s statements, Gowda said BJP leaders are airing anti-national comments, which is disturbing peace. “Muslims, Christians and Hindus should unite to fight against the BJP’s unilateral decisions.”

Chennai, July 27: Multi-lingual actress Vijayalakshmi, who attempted suicide yesterday, alleging harassment and bullying by followers of Naam Thamizhar party leader Seeman and Panankattu Padai’s Hari Nadar, is recuperating at a hospital in Chennai.

Vijayalakshmi is known for films like Friends and Boss Engira Baskaran. She recently made headlines for speaking against Seeman and the torture she was allegedly facing from the actor-turned-politician and his party.

In the video which was uploaded on Sunday evening, Vijayalakshmi said, “This is my last video and I have been in tremendous stress in the last four months because of Seeman and his partymen. I tried my level best to survive all these days because of my mother and sister, but I have been humiliated in the media by Harinadar recently.”

She added, “I would like to tell fans who are watching the video just because I was born in Karnataka, Seeman has tortured me a lot. As a woman, I have put up with it to my highest capabilities. I won’t be able handle the pressure anymore. I am from the Pillai community, the same community LTTE leader Prabhakaran is part of. Prabhakaran is the only reason Seeman is who he is today, but now he has been harassing me on social media continuously. You slut shamed me to make me feel the pain and it is up to me to decide on what to do after facing such insults from you. I request my fans not to let Seeman get away from this case. He should never get anticipatory bail. My death should be a big eye-opener to everyone. I don’t want to be a slave to anybody.”
