Young businesswoman Vathika Pai elected president of KCCI

Mangaluru, Oct 1: City-based young entrepreneur Vathika Pai has been unanimously elected president of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) for 2017-18.

28-year-old Vathika was elected to the post at the 77th Annual General Meeting of KCCI members held here recently, a press release said.

She is the 53rd president of the KCCI. She is also the second woman to head the chamber after Latha R Kini.

Vathika will be assisted by Isaac Vas, honorary treasurer, P B Abdul Hameed, vice-president, Shashidhar Pai Maroor, honorary secretary, Prashanth C G, honorary secretary.

The directors are Nitte Yathiraj Shetty, K Ganesh Kamath, Aditya Padmanabha Pai, Amith Ramachandra Acharya, Praveen Kumar Bangera, Ananth G. Pai, Nissar Fakeer Mohammed, B A Nazeer, Ananthesh V Prabhu, K Dinesh Rao, and M Ganesh Bhat, directors.

Mysuru, Feb 29: Tension prevailed at Tandavaput Industrial Area in Nanjangud taluk, Mysuru when a paper factory received a bomb threat call, which later turned out to be a hoax call.

The police said that the authorities of Rajshil Papers received a bomb threat call in the morning. After getting the information, the bomb detection squad rushed to the spot and inspected the factory premises and declared that it was a hoax call.

According to the police, an unidentified person called from his mobile, which is now switched off.

Mangaluru, Feb 2: A video of a woman rescuing a dog from a well in Mangaluru has gone viral on social media. The dog fell inside the well accidentally and the woman rushed to the spot to rescue it. The two minute seven second video has been shared on Twitter by a user, Mauna, and has ever since been viewed over 15,000 times.

The woman climbed down the well as other people attached a rope to her body during the rescue mission. Another rope was then thrown to her and she tied it around the dog after which it was pulled outside. The woman, thereafter, climbed outside the well with much difficulty.

"Bless the lady who saved the Dog," the user captioned the post.

Mangaluru, May 30: Coastal district of Dakshina Kannada today recorded third covid-19 death as a 67-year-old woman from Bantwal taluk succumbed to the coronavirus at the district Wenlock Hospital, the designated Covid hospital.

The victim is said to be a neighbor of two women (daughter-in-law and mother-in-law) who died of the coronavirus a few days ago. 

On April 18 due to difficulties in breathing, she was rushed to Wenlock Hospital, where she was tested positive for coronavirus. Initially she responded to treatment. However, her condition started worsening earlier this week and breathed her last today evening.

Her daughter also has been tested positive for the deadly virus and she is currently undergoing treatment.
