Young cricketer dies while bowling the last ball of the innings

Kasargod, Dec 12: In a gut wrenching tragedy, a young cricketer collapsed and died during a cricket match at Miyapadavu school ground near Manjeshwar on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Padmanabha Jodukallu (25), who was bowling the last over of the match.

The tragedy took place during an under-arm cricket premiere league organized by a local cricket association.

He had bowled the five balls of the last over. When he was about to bowl the last ball, he collapsed.

The players immediately rushed him to the hospital, but he died on the way. Sudden cardiac arrest is said to be the reason for his death.

The cricket association cancelled the event after the incident took place. Manjeshwara police visited the spot.

Mangaluru, Apr 25: Heavy rain lashed Mangaluru and surrounding areas on Saturday, providing the people respite from the sweltering heat, which they have been experiencing for the last few weeks. 

The rain, which started around 10.30 pm on Friday, lashed heavily after 2 am. Later, there was drizzle for sometime before it stopped raining around 8 am. 

People were seen walking towards the market to purchase essential commodities holding an umbrella and wearing a raincoat.

Kasaragod, May 27: In a tragic incident, two persons, who were brothers, died of asphyxiation while trying to rescue a calf that fell in their well at Bandhiyod near here on Wednesday.

Police sources said the elder brother Narayanan (50) entered into the well first to save the calf that fell in the well early in the morning.

His brother Sankaran (40) also followed suit after he noticed his brother fainting deep down the well. However, he also fainted inside the well.

Udupi/Mangaluru, Mar 1: A total of twenty leaplings were born in the hospitals of the Udupi and Dakshina Kannada (DK) districts on Saturday, February 29, district health department said on Sunday.

According to the district health department, sixteen babies were born in DK district while Udupi district saw four births. More boys than girls were born in DK (12–4) and it was the inverse in Udupi district (3–1).
