Mangaluru, Sept 11: A youth died at a hospital here after he allegedly consuming a poisonous substance in his house at Koila village of Puttur taluk on Saturday.
The deceased is Nagesh Kumbar (30) a member of Koila Gram Panchayat.
According to Kadaba police, Kumbar was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru on Saturday morning and breathed his last in the evening.
The police said they are yet to know the reason that forced Kumbar to resort to the extreme step.
Udupi, July 18 A 15-year-old boy lost his life due to electrocution after he came in contact with a live wire last evening near his house at Laxminagar under the limits of Malpe police station in Udupi.
The deceased has been identified as Gautham (15), son of Manjunath Naiak, a resident of Laxminagar.
Police sources said, the electrocution occurred while he was lifting a pump set from the well at his neighbour’s house. He died on the spot.
A case has been registered at Malpe Police Station and investigation is on.
Gautham had recently appeared for SSLC examinations.
Mangaluru, Jul 9: The National Highway 73 between Mangaluru and Chikmagalur was blocked after a huge tree was uprooted and fell on the road near Somanthadka near Belthangady on Thursday due to heavy rain which has been lashing the region since last three days.
The monsoon rain has shifted from the coastal belt to the hilly region of the Western Ghats leading to closure of major roads after a tree was uprooted.
Karkala BJP MLA Sunil Kumar, who was traveling to Bengaluru had to wait for a long time for the traffic to clear.
Meanwhile Chikkamagaluru Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautam imposed ban on movement of vehicles on Charmadi ghat from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Hope Hasanabba Charmadi cleared the road.
Mangaluru, May 12: Air India will operate two flights - one each from Doha and Muscat - to bring back stranded Kannadigas from Qatar and Oman to Mangaluru next week.
The flight from Muscat to Mangaluru will be operated on May 20 via Bengaluru. It will depart from Muscat International Airport at 1.15 pm local time and reach Bengaluru at 6.15 pm. After the layover at Bengaluru airport, the flight will take off at 7.15 pm and land at Mangaluru International Airport at around 8.10 pm.
Doha – Bengaluru – Mangaluru flight is will be operated May 22. The flight will take off from Doha at 1.30 pm local time and will land at Bengaluru at 8 pm. It will take off from Bengaluru at 9 pm and land at Mangaluru airport around 9.35 pm.
