Young journalist shot dead in Bihar

Sasaram, Nov 12: A journalist of a prominent vernacular daily was shot dead in Rohtas district of Bihar this morning apparently over his articles on illegal stone chips units, the police said.

shotdead copy The scribe, 35-year-old Dharmendra Singh, was having tea at a road side stall at his Amra tola village where he was shot by some unidentified assailants, sub divisional police officer Alok Ranjan said.

The assailant pumped bullet in his stomach from point blank range resulting in his death. He died on way to Varanasi, he said.

Singh is survived by wife and a son. The victim was working for a prominent Hindi daily at Sasaram.

The SDPO said probe is on in the murder case. The murder is suspectedly linked to illegal quarrying business in Rohtas district.

The killing of another scribe, Rajdeo Ranjan, at Siwan in the same district in May last had sent shockwaves throughout the country.

Chikkamagaluru reclaims ‘corona-free district’ tag as all 16 patients discharged

Chikkamagaluru, June 6: The Chikkamagaluru district has become free from confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The last two of the 16 covid patients in the district were discharged today after they were treated and tested negative.

P 2765, a 28-year-old man and P 2766, a 38-year-old man were discharged, said Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautham. Nine others were discharged from hospital yesterday.

Till May 22, Chikkamagaluru district had not recorded any positive and had remained a green zone till then.

However, with the influx of stranded people from Maharashtra and Delhi, the district had registered 16 covid positive cases.

“As on today, there are no active covid-19 cases in the district. However, we should be attentive and take all the precautionary measurers,” the DC said.

The officer has appealed to the public to maintain social distancing in public places and wear masks.

Onus lies on judiciary to ensure speedy justice: Karnataka HC Judge

Chamarajanagara, Jan 20: Karnataka High Court Judge P G M Patil has said that it was the responsibility of the judiciary to ensure that justice was not delayed.

He was speaking at a function marking the inauguration of the first and second floors of the district courts in Chamarajanagar town here last evening. He said that the role of the judiciary was critical in establishing justice in society and hence all efforts must be made to ensure that there was no delay in securing justice.

He observed that the district court has been provided with better amenities that should be utilized for the benefit of the public. The district is no longer backward. It has shown progress and development in recent years and has produced three HC judges, Justice Patil added.
