Youngster brutally murdered near Thokkottu

Mangaluru, Nov 30: A 22-year-old man was found brutally murdered near the railway track at Kapikad near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city last night.

The victim has been identified as Sudarshan (20), a resident of Puthige in Kasargod district.

According to police, rowdy-sheeter D K Rakshit, who is facing several criminal charges, is the prime accused in the case. It is learnt that the murder happened in relation to affair with a girl.

The accused himself reportedly called the Ullal police station and informed them about the murder last night and ‘promised’ to surrender on Saturday, November 30. More details are awaited.

Kasaragod, Mar 29: The ban imposed by Karnataka in crossing state borders to Mangalore even for medical emergencies had cost a life here late on Friday.

According to sources, the ambulance carrying a 70-year-old woman for critical care treatment to Mangalore was blocked at Thalapadi border on Kasaragod-Mangalore National Highway on Friday evening.

A pregnant lady had to deliver in an ambulance recently as the police denied permission to cross over to Mangalore.

Bengaluru, Apr 19:  Karnataka's Technical Education department following Union Home Ministry’s guidelines, on Sunday directed all its colleges not to use the Zoom application to conduct online classes during the ongoing lockdown period.

Considering Union Home Ministry's advisory that Zoom app is not safe, the department has taken the decision and issued a circular asking all government, aided and unaided engineering, polytechnic (Diploma) colleges to stop using the app immediately.

The department recommended the use of a free app developed by TCS: "TCS iON Digital class room" or any other App recommended by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to conduct the online classes.

Mangaluru, Apr 29: One person was arrested on charges of murdering a middle-aged couple on Wednesday in Yellinje near Kinnigoli.

The area falls under the jurisdiction of Mulky police.

Police said that the deceased were identified as Vincent D’Souza (50) and his wife Helina D’ Souza (45).

The arrested was identified as Alphonso (55). He will be sent to judicial custody, said police.
