Mangaluru: Oct 5: Holding giant vehicles operating to and from Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd responsible for the pathetic condition of the Suratkal-Kana-MRPL Road, Mangaluru Mayor Harinath has exhorted the subsidiary of ONGC to take up the repair works.

Speaking to media persons here, Mr Harinath said that he set a deadline of 20 days for MRPL. “The 4.5-km stretch from Suratkal to Kana towards MRPL is dilapidated due to the heavy motor vehicles that use the stretch. It will cost not less than Rs 3 crore, and it would be better the authorities concerned take up the works themselves,” he said.

He also said that the city corporation did not have enough fund to be spent on it. The company should use its corporate social responsibility fund for the purpose.

"I have written letters to MRPL management, Karnataka chief minister and Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner in this regard," Harinath said, adding the under secretary to the CM has directed the DC to take suitable action in this regard. "I am hopeful that the DC will direct the MRPL authorities to take action," Harinath said.

He also warned that councillors of the Mangaluru city corporation would protest against the MRPL for not repairing the road. “Some organisations are planning to stage a protest over the issue on October 6. I, along with all the corporators, will join the protest, if the MRPL?authorities continue to remain nonchalant,” he said.

It's true that MRPL vehicles are doing most damages to this road and it's their social responsibility to keep this road safe and drive worthy..coz of MRPL, locals suffered lot..atleast this much favor MRPL should do..

Mayor Saab dont forget that this road is part of MANAGALORE corporation and locals pay tax to corporation,,so atleast you have to repair it temporarily until MRPL fix it for permanently. now its condition is pathetic...and need all elected members to push MRPL to do the needful immediately. Both our MP & MLA are in deep sleep..pour some water on them also so that let them wake up..

Good move Mr. Harinath, rather after 20 days don't let the vehicle going to and from of MRPL to use the road unless cleared by MRPL.

Bengaluru, Apr 28: A CRPF jawan has been arrested in Karnataka for allegedly defying the COVID-19 lockdown norms with the paramilitary force taking strong exception to his 'ill treatment', following which an inquiry has been ordered by the state police.

State DGP Praveen Sood has ordered inquiry into the incident, which has triggered a row after a video of it went viral.

In the clip, some police constables are purportedly seen hitting CRPF soldier Sachin Sawant with sticks in Belagavi.

According to the information shared on social media, Sawant was washing his bike when a police team reached the spot and started beating him up for not wearing a mask during the lockdown.

Taking a serious view of the 'ill-treatment' meted out to its Cobra Commando, the CRPF has written a letter to the Karnataka police demanding an investigation into the matter.

In a letter to the DGP of Karnataka, the additional Director general of police of CRPF Sanjay Arora said Sawant was cleaning his bike when a skirmish happened between him and the police over not wearing the mask.

Arora wrote, "Sawant was manhandled and ill-treated, before his family members and paraded to the police station barefoot, where he was kept in chains and handcuff.

From the scrutiny of a viral video on social media, it is apparent that the conduct of police personnel was not citizen centric."

The CRPF ADGP also said the 'unpleasant' situation could have been avoided if the Karnataka police had taken CRPF hierarchy into confidence before making the arrest.

In response, Sood ordered an inquiry into the matter.

He tweeted that IGP Belagavi has been asked to conduct a probe into the incident involving CRPF constable. Action will be taken against guilty after receipt of report, he said.

According to sources, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has directed the state police chief to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident.

Denouncing the arrest, Karnataka Irrigation Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi has sought the release of the CRPF jawan.

"It was wrong on the part of the constables to ill treat CRPF jawan and an inquiry be conducted against the erring policemen," said jarkiholi in a press release.

However, Superintendent of Police of Belagavi district, Laxman Nimbargi defended the arrest of Sawant.

Bengaluru, Feb 17: Days after 10 MLAs were inducted in the Cabinet, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa is likely to expand his Cabinet again as some BJP MLAs are unhappy, said BJP sources.

Several leaders including Umesh Katti, CP Yogeshwar, Raju Gowda and MP Renukacharya are miffed over the recent cabinet expansion, claim sources.

On February 6, ST Somashekar, Ramesh Laxmanrao Jarkiholi, Anand Singh, K Sudhakar, BA (Byrathi) Basavaraj, Arabail Hebbar Shivaram, Hasavanagowda C Patil, K Gopalaiah, Narayana Gowda and Shrimant Balasaheb Patil took oath as ministers.

It should be noted that many MLAs had won the by-polls on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket in December last year after switching loyalties from the Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) and Congress.

In the December 5 by-polls held in 15 Assembly constituencies, the BJP had won 12, while Congress managed to bag only two. One seat was won by an Independent candidate while the JDS drew a blank.
