Mangaluru, Apr 17: The office bearers of the Youth Congress from all eight constituencies of Dakshina Kannada have resigned en masse over ticket denial to district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai in May 12 Karnataka assembly polls.

The development comes two days after the Congress released its first list of 218 candidates for the polls. Mithun Rai was an aspirant for the Congress ticket from Mulki-Moodbidri constituency among others. However, the party issued ticket to incumbent MLA Abhaychandra Jain.

Addressing a media in the city, Kiran Kumar Guddeguthlu, district general secretary of the Youth Cong, said that fielding Mr Jain again in the constituency though he had expressed his desire to give opportunity to youngsters instead of contesting himself has hurt the new generation workers.

“Mithun Rai was sure of getting ticket. He worked hard for past three years in Mulky-Moodbidri constituency. Now the party changed its mind all of a sudden and fielded Mr Jain again. This is also against the advice of party supremo Rahul Gandhi who had called upon the seniors to vacate place for the young leaders,” he said.

“This decision will harm Congress party too as a large number of party youth who were attracted towards the party after Rahul Gandhi took over as the president, are now moving away from the party in the constituency,” he said.

Suhail Kandak, Youth Congress state general secretary, said that though he was not against Mr Jain, the new generation wanted to see a young leader like Mr Mithun Rai as MLA.

Youth Cong leaders Girish Alva, Merril Rego, Mohammed Taushif, Abhinandan Belthangady, Prathashanth, Prasad Malli, Prashant Kulal, Mohammed Siddeeq, Varun Raj were present among others.

Mangaluru, Mar 29: The state government has lifted the restrictions on the movement of chicken and eggs, thus ensuring the availability of protein-based nutrition to consumers.

Due to the 21-day lockdown in the State, police and other regulatory authorities were not allowing movement of poultry products, which not only had affected the entire poultry sector but also the consumers. The Karnataka Poultry Farmers and Breeders Association (KPFBA) had made a representation to the government to lift the restrictions.

The Secretary of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, A B Ibrahim in a circular dated March 27, 2020 night , said that the minimal husbandry sector came under essential services and is given exemption during the lockdown period. He cited the letter which provides for the exemption, issued by the Government of India Home Secretary and the Union Joint Secretary of Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

Bengaluru, July 13: The Karnataka government today announced the cancellation of I PUC supplementary examinations across the state.

Primary and Secondary Education minister S Suresh Kumar announced that the government took the decision in the wake of rising cases of Covid-19 and re-introduction of the lockdown. According to sources in the education department, as many as 60,000 students were supposed to appear for the examination.

Previously, the state government had decided to hold these exams at the college level in every district and publish the results by 30 July. However, the government has withdrawn even that arrangement and completely cancelled the exams.

According to the minister, all the students who failed in the I PUC examination, shall also be promoted to II PUC. "The students who have attended all the subjects but unable to pass the exams will also be promoted to the next class," Suresh Kumar said.

However, those who missed out on the exams due to health reasons or failed in the examinations will be given a small test at the time of commencing classes for II PUC to assess their learning ability at the college level, according to the minister. "Only those students who missed out on the examination due to shortage of attendance will not be promoted to the next class," Suresh Kumar clarified.

Bengaluru, May 18: Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa today announced lockdown relaxations from tomorrow (May 19) across the state. As per new guidelines public transport services will start operations outside COVID-19 containment zones in the state.

“To facilitate easy movements of citizens, services of the BMTC, KSRTC, NEKRTC and NWKRTC will start from Tuesday morning, except in containment zones. Even private buses can ply,” Yediyurappa said, after discussing the Centre's Lockdown 4.0 guidelines with his Cabinet colleagues and officials.

“The only condition is that only 30 people should travel in one bus so as to ensure social distancing,” the CM said.

He also clarified that bus fares will not be hiked. “I know there will be losses incurred. The government will bear the losses,” he said.

Auto rickshaws, taxis and maxi cabs (six-passenger vehicles) will also be allowed to operate. “Auto rickshaws and taxis will have a driver and two passengers. Maxi cabs will have a driver and three passengers,” Yediyurappa said.

All parks in the state will be open 7 am to 9 am and 5 pm to 7 pm.

Starting Tuesday, all shops except malls and theatres can open. “This includes salons,” the CM said.

All relaxation will cease to exist every Sunday, the CM said. “Every Sunday will be a complete lockdown. There’ll be no shops and the movement of people. It’ll be a complete rest day,” he said.

The existing curfew from 7 pm to 7 am will continue on all days, which means public transport services will not be allowed during this time.

Trains will run within the state, but interstate trains will not be allowed till May 31, the CM said.

It is mandatory for citizens to wear masks in public. “Not wearing a mask will be penalised,” Yediyurappa said.

On the classification of zones, Yediyurappa said the government's main focus was containment zones. “We're particular about containment zones. In the Karwar district, for example, Bhatkal will be a containment zone and no other taluk will have restrictions,” he said.

However, the government will review the relaxation based on how things pan out. “States have been given the freedom, so we can withdraw or modify as necessary,” he said.
