Youth dies as motorbike rams into bus in overtake bid; another critical

acciddntKasasragod, Dec 9: A young motorcycle rider was killed and his relative injured when their two-wheeler collided head-on with a bus at Mundyathadka on Monday, police said.

The mishap occurred around 5.45 p.m. as the bike rode by Ibrahim Badursha, 21, dashed against the private bus plying on the Kumbla-Perla route in an apparent bid to overtake an autorikshaw, police, quoting eyewitness, said.

Mr. Badurshah, employed in a hotel in Mangaluru, was rushed to a hospital here. However, he succumbed on the way. His relative Abdul Salam, 18, a Plus One student of Badiadukka Cooperative College, is being treated in a hospital here.

Udupi, Mar 30: Karnataka Home Minister and Udupi district in-charge Basavaraj Bommai has urged citizens to stay indoors and help government prevent spread of Covid-19.

In a video released by the Minister on Monday, he said, ''Three patients have been cured and we are observing their situation. All the primary contacts of these patients have been quarantined.''

''In Dr TMA Pai Hospital a 100-bed COVID hospital has been set up and a 150-bed SDM hospital in Udyavara is ready to use as isolation facilities,'' he added.

Mangaluru, Mar 1: A youth lost his life in a lift crash at a wedding hall at Kallapu near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city today. 

The deceased has been identified as Hamzah (30), a resident near Thumbay, who was part of the catering team hired for the marriage ceremony. 

The tragedy occurred at around 2 p.m. when Hamzah was getting ready to bring utensils and other things by lift from the third floor of the hall. All of a sudden, the lift’s ropes came loose and Hamzah lost his balance and got trapped inside.

He was pulled out and rushed to a hospital in Deralakatte, but he breathed his last on the way. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Bengaluru, Mar 3: Minister of Medical Education K Sudhakar on Tuesday said that there is no need to panic as appropriate measures have been taken by the state government to tackle a possible Coronavirus outbreak.

"I request the media not to spread panic and support the government in dealing with any possible Coronavirus outbreak. With the help of the Centre we have taken all required precautionary measures to deal with any situation," Sudhakar told reporters.

Talking about the first confirmed case in Telangana, who had stopped over in Bengaluru, the Minister said, "His flatmates and 23 people who travelled with him from Karnataka are being screened. Both the state (Karnataka and Telangana) government are taking care of them."

"Out of the 295 samples collected so far, 240 tested samples tested negative. We are awaiting more results as of now. There are two labs. One in RGICS and another in Bangaluru Medical College where tests are being carried out," he said.

On Monday, the first confirmed case of a Novel Coronavirus in Telangana was reported from Hyderabad when a 24-year-old man, who had come in contact with some Hong Kong citizens, while he was in Dubai on February 17, tested positive for the virus.

After arriving in Bengaluru on February 20 and travelled to Hyderabad by bus on February 22.

Meanwhile, Telangana Health Minister Eatala Rajender on Sunday said that the state government is on a high alert since the confirmation of one Coronavirus positive case here.

The Health Department has also issued an advisory to all educational institutes.
