Youth held on charge of sexually assaulting student after barging into hostel

Mangaluru, Aug 11: The Dakshina Kannada district police have arrested a person on charge of barging into a hostel and sexually assaulting a college student nearly twenty days ago.

According to B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda, Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada, on July 20, the accused had entered the B.Sc. Nursing women’s hostel of K.R. Hospital in Mysuru after threatening the security guard with a knife.

The accused sexually assaulted a hostel inmate and fled after other inmates raised an alarm. A case was registered at Devaraja police station of Mysuru in this regard.

On Friday, a team of cops from the Uppinangady police station arrested Mohammed Altaf, 23, son of Abdul Razak, a resident of Ajilamogaru in Bantwal taluk. He was allegedly hiding, disguised as a worker at a plantation in Patrame village of Belthangady taluk. The SP said he would be handed over to the Mysuru police soon.

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Following the alarming increase in Coronavirus cases, Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao on Monday said that those subjected to home quarantine stamping would be arrested if they were found to visit public places.

"5,000 Home quarantine stamping was carried to ensure that they remain in home and not to be seen in public places for their own interest as well as in an attempt to prevent spread of Coronavirus", he tweeted.

"I have received information on some of those stamped are moving in BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) buses and sitting in restaurants. Please call 100, these people will be picked up, arrested and sent to government quarantine," Rao said.

Mysuru, Mar 24:m who returned from foreign travel and flouted home quarantine guidelines has been arrested in Mysuru on Monday. 

The man, who returned from Australia, had a seal on his hand but was roaming around the city. 

According to police, he was supposed to be under home quarantine till April 6. V V Puram Police took him into custody.

Mangaluru, July 13: Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP of Dakshina Kannada, has appealed the chief minister to give nod to impose a week-long lockdown in the coastal district in the wake of mounting coronavirus cases.

Mr Kateel, who is also the president of Karnataka BJP, participated in a video conference with chief minister BS Yediyurappa along with Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh and district in charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.

The final decision about the lockdown in the district will be taken following a meeting under the leadership of the deputy commissioner, wherein the elected representatives of the district will express their opinions.
