Youth held on charge of sexually assaulting student after barging into hostel

Mangaluru, Aug 11: The Dakshina Kannada district police have arrested a person on charge of barging into a hostel and sexually assaulting a college student nearly twenty days ago.

According to B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda, Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada, on July 20, the accused had entered the B.Sc. Nursing women’s hostel of K.R. Hospital in Mysuru after threatening the security guard with a knife.

The accused sexually assaulted a hostel inmate and fled after other inmates raised an alarm. A case was registered at Devaraja police station of Mysuru in this regard.

On Friday, a team of cops from the Uppinangady police station arrested Mohammed Altaf, 23, son of Abdul Razak, a resident of Ajilamogaru in Bantwal taluk. He was allegedly hiding, disguised as a worker at a plantation in Patrame village of Belthangady taluk. The SP said he would be handed over to the Mysuru police soon.

Bengaluru, Apr 19: With six new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, Karnataka's total count of coronavirus patients has surged to 390, said the State's Health Department on Sunday.

"Six new cases have been confirmed for COVID-19 in the State from 5 pm yesterday till 5 pm today. Cumulatively, 390 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state," said the Health Department in a statement.

The total coronavirus cases in the State include 16 deaths and 111 discharges.

Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said that "only essential and critical number of" employees of the Information Technology (IT) companies will be allowed to work from offices from April 20 onwards in Bengaluru, while others will have to continue working from home.

According to the latest update by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of positive cases in India has mounted to 16,116 and 519 deaths have been reported till now.

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Karnataka government on Friday issued revised guidelines for international returnees.

According to the guidelines, all the travelers shall submit self-declaration form on the Yatri Karnataka online portal at least 72 hours before the scheduled date of travel.

"All travelers shall submit Self-declaration forrn on the Yatri Karnataka online portal (http://www,covidwar.karnataka.gov.in or http://parihara.kaarnateka.gov.in/service38/) least 72 hours before the scheduled date of travel," it read.

It said that Before Boarding Do's and Don, about COV1D-19 quarantine, testing, etc. shall be provided along with ticket to the travellers by the travel agencies concerned.

All passengers shall download Arogya Setu app, Quarantine watch app end Apthamitra App on their mobile devices, (https://covid-19.karnataka.gov.in/new-page/softwares/en).

At the time of boarding the flight/ ship, only asymptomatic travellers shall be allowed in board after thermal screening.

"Deboarding should be done by ensuring physical distancing of two meters. 

Self-declaration form shall be obtained from each passenger in duplicate," the guidelines read.

Karnataka has 75,076 active cases of the virus with 80,281 recovered and 2,897 deaths so far.

Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 1: Karnataka’s twin costal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have recorded 10 more deaths related to covid-19. 

With four more deaths, Dakshina Kannada’s covid-19 death toll mounted to 159. Udupi’s covid-19 death toll mounted to 35 with 6 new deaths. 

Meanwhile, DK recorded 139 new covid positive cases. Among them 91 are from Mangaluru, 19 from Bantwal, 14 from Beltangady, nine from Puttur, and six from other districts.

With this, the total number of the covid-10 cases in DK reached 5,852. Out of these only 3,008 cases are currently active. 

On the other hand, Udupi recorded 136 new covid-19 cases. The total number of covid-19 cases reported in the district mounted to 4,492. 

According to the official bulletin, a total of 32,401 samples have been collected so far. Among them 27,463 have turned out to be negative and 446 reports are awaited.
