Youth held on charge of sexually assaulting student after barging into hostel

Mangaluru, Aug 11: The Dakshina Kannada district police have arrested a person on charge of barging into a hostel and sexually assaulting a college student nearly twenty days ago.

According to B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda, Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada, on July 20, the accused had entered the B.Sc. Nursing women’s hostel of K.R. Hospital in Mysuru after threatening the security guard with a knife.

The accused sexually assaulted a hostel inmate and fled after other inmates raised an alarm. A case was registered at Devaraja police station of Mysuru in this regard.

On Friday, a team of cops from the Uppinangady police station arrested Mohammed Altaf, 23, son of Abdul Razak, a resident of Ajilamogaru in Bantwal taluk. He was allegedly hiding, disguised as a worker at a plantation in Patrame village of Belthangady taluk. The SP said he would be handed over to the Mysuru police soon.

Bengaluru, May 13: 26 new covid-19 cases have been reported in Karnataka taking the total cases to 951. This includes 32 COVID deaths, one non-COVID death and 442 discharges.

The new cases include eleven cases from Bidar - all of whom are from the containment zone - , four from Hassan, two each from Davangere, Kalaburgi, Vijayapura and Uttara Kannada and one each from Bengaluru Urban, Ballari and Dakshina Kannada.

All the cases reported in Hassan and Vijayapura are with a travel history to Mumbai. In Bengaluru Urban, a nurse from a designated COVID hospital who was under quarantine has tested positive.

32nd death

The latest death reported was that of a 60-year-old man in Kalaburgi district. The deceased man from a containment zone was brought dead on May 11 to a designated hospital in Kalaburagi, and he has tested positive for COVID-19, it said.

Mangaluru, Jul 6: Two fresh deaths in last 24 hours have taken the total number of covid-19 deaths in Dakshina Kannada district to 24.

The deceased are a 52-year-old woman from Ullal and a 52-year-old man from Thokkottu.

The man was suffering from cardovascular disease and pneumonia, sources said.

The woman passed away in Wenlock hospital.

More details are awaited.

Udupi, May 4: Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha said that mechanised boat fishing will be permitted in Udupi district in another two days.

He further said that the decision was taken after the district was declared as a Green Zone as no fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from the district in the past several days.

The Deputy Commissioner told the media here that fishing will be permitted but social distancing has to be practised and only 30 boats will be permitted in a day.
