Kasaragod, Feb 17: A month after the murder of 60-year-old Zubaida at her house at Ayampara, near Periye here, the police have arrested the prime accused in the case. Three other accused are already in judicial custody.
Azeez, 30, a native of Ajjavara near Sullia town in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, was rounded up in the forests by the investigating team headed by Bekal Circle Inspector V.K. Vishwambharan a few days ago. The arrest was registered late on Thursday, police sources said.
Azeez, produced before a court in Kanhangad on Friday was remanded in two weeks judicial custody.
The police had arrested K.M. Abdul Khader, 26, and P. Abdul Azeez, 23, from Uliyathadukka near here last month. Harshad, 30, a resident of Maanya, had surrendered before the Judicial First Class Magistrate court in Kanhangad recently.
The police, however, are yet to make any headway in the January 13 murder of retired headmistress P.V. Janaki, 65, at her house at Puliyannur near Cheemeni. Three masked robbers had allegedly decamped with a gold chain, ring, and Rs. 50,000 in cash after stabbing the slain woman’s husband K. Krishnan,72, a retired headmaster.
The murder case 68-year-old housewife Devaki, a resident of Periyattadukkam, in January last year, too remains unresolved. The murder case has been handed over to the Special Crime Branch Department in Kannur. The police could not get any clues about the case from the arrested foursome.
Welcoming the move Dr Arathi Krishna told coastaldigst.com that Indians stranded in any foreign country can utilize this facility. "Initially, I was approached by Mr Zakaria and Mr Sheik who wanted chartered flights to help their employees fly back to India. I asked them to write to the Indian Ambassador in Saudi Araia Mr Ausaf Sayeed. Then I requested the ambassador to forward the request to Joint Secretary Dr Nagendra Prasad, who is in charge of gulf division in the Ministry of External Affairs, and then to Secretary on charge of Gulf and then I requested Secretary of Economic Relations Mr T S Tirumurti who was also in charge of Gulf to follow this up," she said.
