Sept 12: Yuvraj Singh’s name was dragged for “malafide” reasons in the domestic violence case against his brother Zoraver but with the matter recently settled after an apology by the accuser, the family on Wednesday said he can now begin to “heal”. Yuvraj was named in the domestic violence case filed by Zoraver’s estranged wife Akanksha Sharma.

After a four-year legal battle Akanksha and Zoraver got divorced earlier this month and the former apologised to Yuvraj and his family for making false allegations against them. Zoraver and Akanksha’s marriage lasted a mere six months.

“Finding no other way to escape the process of law against her, Ms. Akanksha Sharma has apologised and admitted all her allegations to be false and incorrect and withdrawn the same,” the family stated.

Yuvraj and his mother Shabnam Singh were named in the domestic violence complaint filed by Akanksha in a Gurugram court in October 2017.

“The only perspective that we wish to put forth is that we were vulnerable targets as one of the family members i.e. Yuvraj Singh was, and is adored and loved by millions,” said Yuvraj’s familty in a statement.

“His great reputation was put at stake for personal malafide reasons in the most unfair manner in the hope of gaining some kind of advantage which was not otherwise due.

“We can only feel proud of Yuvraj Singh yet again, who has always decided to fight back with unshakable faith in God and the judiciary of this great country,” it added.

Sydney, Mar 3: Former Australia pacer Brett Lee foresees a "different" looking India making their maiden T20 Women's World Cup final and attributed their rise to the emergence of star players like 16-year-old Shafali Verma.

Besides opener Shafali, experienced leg-spinner Poonam Yadav has been the other match-winner for India in the competition. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side topped the group stage with four wins in as many games and play their semifinal here on Thursday.

"They've never reached the final but this is a different India team from the one they’ve seen before. They've combined match-winners in Shafali Verma and Poonam Yadav with consistent players with both bat and ball," Lee was quoted as saying by ICC.

"We've always known they have some of the best players in the world but now Harmanpreet Kaur has a team around her that can support the big players, and fill in the gaps when they have an off day."

Only a special effort from their opponents can stop India from reaching their maiden final, feels Lee.

They'll go into the semi-finals full of confidence and it will take an excellent team to stop them from reaching the Final."

Talking more about Shafali, who has got 47, 46, 39, and 29 so far, Lee backed the teen sensation to make a bigger score in the semifinal.

"Shafali Verma has been excellent at the top of the order, she’s brought a fearless energy to India’s batting and been brilliant to watch.

"You feel she can go even bigger as well – she hasn't reached 50 yet, which is both exciting for those watching and worrying for the bowlers.

"We saw from the opener against Australia just how good India can be, and it’s no surprise they’ve continued that form to top Group A," he added.

New Delhi, Mar 13: The remaining ODI series between India and South Africa has been called-off amidst the rising concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

"The second and third ODI between India and South Africa in Lucknow and Kolkata respectively are called off," the BCCI source told media persons.

The first match of the series was abandoned due to rain and wet outfield without a toss at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium on Thursday.

The second and third ODI was scheduled to be played at Lucknow and Kolkata on March 15 and 18 respectively. Earlier on Thursday, the BCCI has decided to play the remaining two ODIs behind closed doors.

"After holding discussions with the MYAS and MOHFW, the BCCI on Thursday announced that the remaining two One-day Internationals (ODIs) of the three-match series of South Africa tour of India, 2020, will be played without any public gathering, including spectators," the BCCI had said in a statement.

The Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry has advised all the federations to avoid large gatherings.

World Health Organisation (WHO) on Wednesday had declared the coronavirus outbreak a 'pandemic' and expressed deep concerns.

The coronavirus disease was first detected in Wuhan in China's Hubei province, in late December, and has since spread worldwide.
