10-yr-old endosulfan victims dies

Kasargod, Apr 7: A 10-year-old boy, who was suffering from physical deformities, died at his home at the hilly township of Rajapuram.

Akshad Liju, whose name was included in the official list of endosulfan victims, passed away on Wednesday at the house of his mother Babitha, sources here said. Akshad’s father, Liju Joseph, serving in the Army near Mumbai, reportedly said that he lost his son as the family could not provide him expert medical care.

Akshad, whose condition turned worse on Wednesday morning, was rushed to the district hospital in Kanhangad. However, he could not be saved.

Hoteliers suffer due to night curfew

Kalaburagi, Jul 2: Hoteliers in Kalaburagi have claimed that their business is hit due to night curfew timings in the state.

The night curfew in the state has been imposed from 8 pm to 5 am.

Speaking to news agency, Sudarshan, a hotelier said, "Peak business hour is 7-10 pm but now we close by 8 pm. There is almost no business. We are unable to pay our workers. The government should think about it".

"We haven't received any benefit from the government so far. If we are in trouble how will we help our workers? Relaxation should be given," he added.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government on Tuesday announced a complete lockdown on Sundays till August 2.

So far, Karnataka has reported 15,242 COVID-19 cases, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

United Marine Products receives MPEDA best exporter award

United Marine Products, Karnataka and Goa has been awarded the MPEDA (Marine Products Export Development Authority) best exporter award for outstanding export performance of 2017-18 and second best exporter of 2018-19 from the govt of India under the category "Fishmeal, Fish oil and Allied products." held at Grand Hyatt, LuLu convention center, Kochi.

The award was conferred in the presence of Central Minister for state, commerce and Industry Mr Som Parkash and Honourable minister for fisheries, govt of Kerala Mercy kutty Amma. Mr Muhammad Sameer, Managing Partner, received the award.
