Bengaluru, Dec 2: Dr Sri Shivakumara Swami, the head seer of Siddaganga Mutt and the most revered Lingayat figure, was admitted to BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals yesterday after he developed fever because of an infection and obstruction in the liver tube.

The 111-year-old religious stalwart is also one of the oldest persons in the country.

Ravindra B.S., chief of Medical Gastroenterology at the hospital (who is treating the seer) said that his blood reports showed severe infection, which he may have developed because of the obstruction in his liver tube.

“We are evaluating him and have done blood tests, CT scan and an ultrasound too. We will repeat the blood tests on Sunday and based on the reports, we will take a call on whether we need to clean the liver tube or place another stent,” the doctor said.

The seer has undergone endoscopic procedure and stenting for liver tube five times in the last two-and-a-half years in BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals.

“The seer already has eight stents in his bile duct and there is no scope for implanting more. We will first try to clean the liver tube through an endoscopic procedure and if that does not help, we may have to remove one plastic stent and replace it with a new one,” the doctor said.

The seer was last admitted in June this year and had been diagnosed with a dilated liver tube owing to a mild pancreatic and liver tube blockage.

Gadag, May 9: It is the month of April, and the season of mangoes is very much here. However, the mango farmers of Gadag are suffering huge losses amid the coronavirus lockdown due to the absence of transportation facilities along with several other issues that have been impacting their business adversely.

Speaking to media persons, Vishwanath Odugowdar, a mango farmer said, "Due to transportation problems we are not being able to export mangoes to different countries. We are trying to sell them in nearby markets."

"We are not in a situation to pack, transport and export the mangoes to different countries as we did earlier especially
when it comes to Alphonso mangoes which is one of the most loved varieties. So, we are packing mangoes at our place. Somehow this year we have got very good quality of mangoes," he added.

Farmers here are incurring huge losses as mandis and markets across the country are shut while the transport of Alphonso mangoes has also come to a halt owing to the lockdown.

The small and medium scale farmers in places like Gadag, Dharwad, Bagalkote in north Karnataka have started packing the mangoes themselves in their farms in a bid to sell the fruit themselves.

Mangaluru, July 23: Lavanya Ballal, national co-coordinator for social media department of Indian National Congress, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of destroying the nation by misleading the youth.

In an interview with a regional Kannada news paper, the Dakshina Kannada based activist, lamented that instead of using social media for the welfare of the nation, BJP leaders used it to spread lies for their political gains.

On one hand BJP fooled people through false promises and colourful dialogues, while on the other hand it misled crores of youth by spreading fake news, twisted facts and false information, she said.

Ms Ballal went on to accuse BJP of following the footsteps of the British. “BJP is following all the methods employed by the British invaders to divide the people of India and make them hate each other,” she said.

She said that Congress always used the social media for the benefit of the country. If the new generation realises this fact, the country will once again turn its direction towards development, she asserted.

Bengaluru, Apr 7: Former Minister and Leader of the Opposition Siddaramiah on Tuesday termed the shutting by private clinics in the state by doctors as an 'inhuman act'.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, the Congress leader said due to the fear of Novel Coronavirus, the doctors have closed their private clinics, which was against their profession.

This has affected the people, especially those, who are suffering from other deceases. He urged Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to intervene and resolve the issue immediately.

Despite the government instructions not to close down their clinics, the doctors have not been responding positively, Mr Siddaramaiah noted.

In this connection, the government should act seriously and give necessary warning to the doctors, to either open their clinics to serve the people, or face action, he added.
