15-yr-old blind girl raped by 2 blind teachers in Gujarat

Palanpur, Nov 7: In a shocking incident, two blind teachers - one of them 62-year-old - have been accused of raping a 15-year-old blind girl several times for nearly four months in a school run by a private trust in Gujarat’s temple town Ambaji.

The teachers were booked after the girl narrated her ordeal to her aunt when she had gone to her native Premnagar village of Patan district's Radhanpur taluka for Diwali vacation last month.

The family members got curious when the girl refused to go back to the school after vacations got over. She broke down and described how she was sexually assaulted by the two teachers - Chaman Thakor (62) and Jayanti Thakor (30).

After studying up to Class 8 in her native village, the girl had taken admission in the school to learn music in July to learn music. The school also imparts rehabilitation and vocational training to the differently-abled students. She was living in the school's hostel.

According to the complaint lodged by the girl's aunt on November 4, the minor was first raped in the music room by Jayanti Thakor two months ago. After three days, Chaman Thakor too allegedly raped her in the same room. It is alleged that Jayanti again raped her on the day before Navratri festival was to commence.

The girl said that the sexual assaults stopped only after she revealed her trauma to three other teachers of the school.

Police inspector, Ambaji, JB Agrawat, said, "We are investigating the case in detail and a manhunt has been launched to trace the two accused teachers who have fled."

Jayanti is a native of Bhabhar town of Banaskantha while Chaman lives in Gadh village near Palanpur. Both were dismissed by the school management after the complaint was lodged. Sources said that the institution is around five years old.

Kerala aircraft mishap: MoS Muraleedharan reaches Kozhikode to 'visit crash site, meet injured'

Kozhikode, Aug 8: Minister of State (Mos) for External Affairs V Muraleedharan on Saturday reached Kozhikode where Air India Express flight (IX-1344) crash-landed yesterday.

He is likely to meet those injured in the crash and their family members.

At least 17 people including two pilots have lost their lives in the incident. However, the four-cabin crew members are safe, said the Air India Express in a statement.

The injured are admitted to hospitals in Malappuram and Kozhikode, as per the state government officials.

Informing about his visit to Kozhikode, Muraleedharan tweeted: "Taking off to #Calicut by @airindiain
special flight. Hope to visit the crash site at the Calicut Airport and also meet those injured in the crash and their family members."

Muraleedharan on Friday expressed grief after an Air India Express plane carrying 190 passengers including 10 infants skidded while landing at Karipur Airport in Kozhikode.

"Deeply anguished to hear about the mishap in Calicut airport involving the flight from Dubai to Calicut. Was informed that the plane overshot the runway and seemingly nosedived," the Minister tweeted.

India would not discriminate among religions, we are not a theocratic country like Pakistan: Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, Jan 22: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said Indian values consider all religions equal, and that is why the country is secular and never became a theocratic state like Pakistan.

Speaking at the NCC Republic Day Camp in Delhi, Singh said: "We (India) said we would not discriminate among religions. Why did we do that? Our neighbouring country has declared that their state has a religion. They have declared themselves a theocratic state. We didn't declare so."

"Even America is a theocratic country. India is not a theocratic country. Why? Because our saints and seers did not just consider the people living within our borders as part of the family, but called everyone living in the world as one family," the minister said.

Singh underlined that India had never declared its religion would be Hindu, Sikh or Buddhist and people of all religions could live here.

"They gave the slogan of 'Vasudev Kutumbakam' -- the whole world is one family. This message has gone to the whole world from here only," he added.

Four back-to-back bomb explosions rock Afghan capital

Kabul, May 11: Four back-to-back roadside bombs exploded in a northern district of Afghanistan's capital Kabul on Monday, wounding four civilians including a child, police said. Kabul police spokesman Ferdaws Faramarz said a clearance team was at the site of the attacks.

Militants have carried out several roadside bombings and rocket attacks in Kabul and other parts of the country in recent weeks, but Monday's four consecutive explosions appeared to be the first coordinated effort for some months.

The Taliban has not carried out any large attacks in the city since they signed a landmark withdrawal deal with the US in February, meant to pave the way for peace in the country. No group has claimed the attacks. The explosions come as authorities are trying to impose a lockdown in the capital to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.
