19-year-old student beaten to death in Hyderabad

Beaten to deathHyderabad, Nov 30: A BCom second year student was allegedly beaten to death by his senior at Pragathi Mahavidyalaya, Koti, on Saturday, when he tried to stop him from harassing a girl student.

The accused, Satish Kodkar, 22, got enraged, when the victim, K.S. Harshavardhan Rao, 19, asked him not to tease girls from his class. Satish punched the victim twice, who fell on the ground after hitting his head on the edge of a bench. An unconscious Harshavardhan succumbed to his injuries at Nampally Care Hospital a few hours after the incident. Doctors say a grievous internal injury in his head caused the death.

According to the students, the incident occurred during lunch break inside Harshavardhan’s classroom. Satish, who is a final year student in the college, had teased a girl from Harshavardhan’s class in the morning. As the girl was his friend, he confronted Satish “Satish got angry, and there was a spat. However, he did not do anything then,” said a student.

“Later, during lunch break, Satish came to Harshavardhan’s class while he was sitting with a few boys and girls, and picked up a fight. Satish hit him once on the chest and once on his neck. The victim’s head hit the edge of a bench before falling to the ground. He fell unconscious, and later died in the hospital,” said Mr Ravula Giridhar, Sultan Bazaar ACP.

Satish was angry and wanted to ‘settle the matter with his junior. “Before attacking him Satish shouted ‘how dare you question you senior’,” said the ACP.

Nagpur, Apr 5: A 23-year-old man allegedly committed suicide in Imambada area in Nagpur on Saturday due to financial distress, police said.

Nikhil Gavhane, who worked in a grocery shop, hanged himself as he had taken money from a person and was stressed over repayment, an official said.

"He was depressed since a week," the Imambada police station official said.

Kanpur, Jul 8: The Special Task Force (STF) shot dead Amar Dubey in an encounter in Maudaha on Wednesday morning. Amar, a right hand man of gangster Vikas Dubey, who shot dead eight police personnel on Friday last, figured prominently in the list of wanted persons released by the Kanpur police on Tuesday.

He was a named accused in the massacre.

According to STF sources, the police team had received a tip off about Amar's presence in the district and when they tried to close in on him, the criminal opened fire on them, He was killed in retaliatory firing around 6.30.a.m,

Amar was reportedly heading towards the house of one of his relatives in Maudaha area.

"We asked him to surrender but he opened fire at us and was killed when we returned the fire," said an STF official.

Earlier, he had been hiding in Faridabad but moved out after police pressure increased there.

Amar Dubey was a trusted accomplice of Vikas Dubey and the police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on him after the Kanpur massacre.

Incidentally, reports claim that Vikas Dubey was also seen at a hotel in Faridabad on Tuesday night but fled before the police could close in on him.

Lucknow, May 1: Six members of a family were allegedly hacked to death by another family member over a property dispute in Gudauli village in the Banthra area on the outskirts of the city on Thursday, police said.

The accused, Ajay Singh (26), went to the local police station after committing the crime and surrendered, they added.

Singh allegedly had a heated argument with the family members over a property and attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon, the police said.

The accused allegedly killed his mother, father, elder brother, his wife and two children -- a son and a daughter -- they added.

The victims were identified as Amar (60), Ramsakhi (55), Arun (40), Ramdulari (35), Saurabh (7) and Sarika (2).

When asked, Commissioner of Police Sujeet Pandey said six members of a family were killed and the accused surrendered before the police.
