Belagavi, Nov 2: A man taking part in the Rajyotsava procession and a head constable suffered injuries in separate incidents of stone pelting and knife attack near the deputy commissioner's office and Sangolli Rayanna Circle here on Wednesday evening.

When the procession was passing by the DC office, a group objected to sound systems being used. This led to a war of words and miscreants pelted stones in which one person identified as Kareppa Pujari, a resident of Ankalgi village in Gokak taluk, suffered head injuries. Twao others suffered minor injuries.

Another group on the rampage, in what appeared to be a retaliation to the earlier incident, resorted to stone pelting on vehicles near Sangolli Rayanna Circle and the police headquarters. M A Patil, head constable attached to the traffic (north) police station, was attacked with a knife when he tried to stop the miscreants and catch one of them. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti took out a rally to mark black day against the Rajyotsava, in which Mayor Sanjyot Bandekar took part.
