New Delhi, Sep 20: An 18-month-old girl died of starvation and her older sister is in a critical condition after they got “accidentally” locked up for almost three days in a farmhouse garage in West Delhi’s Nihal Vihar.girl

The deceased’s sister, a three-year-old child, is badly starved and in a critical condition but is expected to survive, said Dependra Pathak, Joint CP (South-Western Range).

The officer said preliminary investigation pointed towards the sisters getting locked up accidentally but a decision on registering an FIR would be taken after a further probe.

The girls lived with their parents in a neighbouring farmhouse where they are employed. The area is dotted with several such farmhouses.

The girls wandered over to the neighbouring farmhouse last Friday afternoon. The police said prima facie it appears no one spotted them walking into a garage.

The man in-charge of the garage has told the police that he did not know anyone was inside the garage when he downed the shutters on Friday evening.

“Saturday and Sunday being holidays, the man apparently did not turn up for work because of which the girls remained locked inside through the three days,” said Mr. Pathak.

The girls’ parents, meanwhile, had searched the entire area for their children before approaching the police for registering a missing complaint. However, no one in the search parties guessed that the sisters could be in the garage.

It was only when the garage in-charge opened the shutters on Monday afternoon did the incident come to light.

The man heard moans emanating from one corner of the garage. When he went to the corner, he noticed the three-year-old girl lying half unconscious and her sister in her arms.

He immediately raised an alarm after which the sisters were rushed to a hospital where the younger one was declared dead. The elder girl has been admitted to the intensive care unit.

Noida, Jul 28: A doctor admitted at a private hospital in Noida has been accused of sexually harassing a patient in his isolation ward, where both were undergoing treatment for COVID-19, the police said.

The 20-year-old woman, in her complaint to the police, alleged that the incident took place on Monday and based on that a case was filed at the local expressway police station, they said.

A senior police official said an investigation is underway and there might be lapses on part of the hospital which allegedly admitted a man and a woman in the same isolation ward, in violation of the norms.

The woman and the doctor had tested positive for coronavirus last week, according to officials.

"The woman was in the isolation ward of the private hospital. There was a man, a medical practitioner, who too was infected with coronavirus and was sharing the ward with her," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, Ranvijay Singh said.

He said the woman alleged molestation and upon being informed, the police immediately lodged a case and initiated a probe into the matter.

"There appears to be some irresponsibility on part of the hospital too. We are communication with the medical departments to check whether the patients were being kept in accordance with the guidelines," Mr Singh said.

He said the accused is still in isolation but the police will reach out for his statement following due protocols of COVID-19.

"All necessary action will be taken as per the truth that will emerge after a thorough investigation," Mr Singh said.
