2018 polls: Lobbying for ticket intensifies in Cong after entry of 7 JD(S) rebels

Bengaluru, Aug 23: The imminent entry of seven ticket-monger rebel JD(S) MLAs into the Congress has created a sense of insecurity among several Congress leaders in Karnataka. Senior leaders in the ruling party have commenced lobbying for ticket for their loyalists and kin for the 2018 Assembly elections.

The JD(S) rebel legislators will officially join the Congress soon and they have been introduced to party vice-president Rahul Gandhi by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Delhi, with the hope of getting ticket. However, sources in the Congress revealed that the party has not guaranteed ticket to all seven.

It is learnt that the party has not ensured ticket in the reserve (SC) constituency of Pulakeshinagar in Bengaluru to incumbent Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy. Sources said Congress leader in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge has been supporting the candidature of Prasanna Kumar, who had lost to Mr. Murthy in the 2013 polls. Complicating matters further is the indication that KPCC president G. Parameshwara has plans to migrate to the city and contest from Pulakeshinagar. The KPPC chief lost to Sudhakar Lal of JD(S) in 2013 from Koratagere constituency in Tumakuru district.

The other six rebel JD(S) leaders are expected to get ticket. They are Zameer Ahmed Khan (Chamarajpet); N. Chaluvarayaswamy (Nagamangala); H.C. Balakrishna (Magadi); Bhima Naik (Hagaribommanahalli); Ramesh Bandisiddegowda (Srirangapatna); and Iqbal Ansari (Gangavathi) as there are no strong Congress candidates in these constituencies.

Meanwhile, Ministers and senior leaders too have started lobbying for ticket for their sons and daughters. Mr. Siddaramaiah is almost sure to field his son, Yathindra, either from Chamundeshwari or Varuna constituency. Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, Law Minister T.B. Jayachandra, Animal Husbandry Minister A. Manju, Legislative Assembly Speaker K.B. Koliwad, former Union Minister Margaret Alva, and former Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Rahman Khan are lobbying with the party high command to get ticket for their sons in constituencies of their respective districts.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has been lobbying hard to get ticket for his daughter Sowmya Reddy for Jayanagar seat in the city, while K.H. Muniyappa, Kolar MP, is keen on fielding his daughter Roopakala from KGF constituency. Motamma too has been trying to get ticket for her daughter in Kadur constituency of Chikkamagalur.

Ayodhya, Aug 4: Ramarchan puja begins at Ram Janmabhoomi site ahead of the foundation laying ceremony of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Ramarchan Puja is a prayer to invite all major gods and goddesses ahead of Lord Ram's arrival.

Mahesh Bhagchandka, one of the trustees of Ashok Singhal foundation as Yajman in the puja said, "This is being conducted at the temporary seat of Ramlalla. The pooja will be conducted in four phases."

Speaking about the third and fourth phases, he said: "In the third phase, Dashrath, father of Lord Ram with his wives will be worshipped and then all three brothers of Lord Ram - Laxman, Bharat and Shatrughan with their wives. Lord Hanuman ji will too be worshipped. Whereas in the fourth phase, Lord Ram will be worshipped."
Meanwhile, security has been heightened in Ayodhya ahead of the foundation laying ceremony.

Temples across the city is decorated with lights, diyas and flowers ahead of the grand event. Patna's Mahavir Mandir Trust is preparing over 1.25 lakh 'Raghupati Laddoos' for the occasion. Thes laddoos will be distributed as 'prasad' to devotees.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday offered prayers at the Hanuman Garhi temple during his visit to Ayodhya to take stock of the preparations for the 'bhoomi pujan'.
He along with officials also visited 'Ram ki Paudi' to inspect the arrangements ahead of the foundation stone laying ceremony.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on August 5.

Udupi, Jun 20: Movement of heavy vehicles on Agumbe Ghat section was banned till October 15, following heavy rain lashing due to onset of South West Monsoon.

The Agumbe Ghat connects Shivamogga with the Udupi district. There is a possibility of landslides on either side of the Ghat road if movement of heavy vehicles is allowed during the monsoon, said Udupi DC G Jagadeesh in statement issued here on Saturday.

The movement of all heavy vehicles above 12 tonnes has been banned on the road. Till end of monsoon all the heavy vehicles have to move via Udupi-Brahmavar-Barkur-Shankaranarayana; Siddapura-Hosangady-Hulikal Ghat-Hosanagara-Theerthahalli; Udupi-Karkala-Bajagoli-S K Border-Kerekatte-Sringeri- Shivamogga.

Bengaluru, Jul 10: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Thursday condemned the decision of the HRD Ministry to drop chapters on citizenship, secularism and federalism from Class 11 political science syllabus, stating that this will "deprive a generation of students from understanding the important pillars of Indian democracy".

"I strongly condemn the decision of @HRDMinistry to drop chapters on citizenship, secularism and federalism. This will deprive a generation of students from understanding the important pillars of Indian democracy. #Stop Saffronisation Of Education," Siddaramaiah tweeted.

The Congress leader further alleged that BJP does not believe in the principles of citizenship, secularism and federalism.

"Chapters on citizenship, secularism and federalism are dropped from Class 11 Pol Science. syllabus. Does this explain something? Yes, it explains that @BJP4India doesn't believe in these principles and validates its past behaviour," he said in another tweet.

Earlier in the day, Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank rejected criticism over alleged conspiracy in CBSE's decision to reduce the syllabus of schools due to COVID-19 outbreak and urged the critics to "leave politics out of education".

"There has been a lot of uninformed commentary on the exclusion of some topics from #CBSESyllabus. The problem with these comments is that they resort to sensationalism by connecting topics selectively to portray a false narrative," the Union Minister tweeted.

"It is our humble request:#Education is our sacred duty towards our children. Let us leave politics out of education and make our politics more educated," he added.

The CBSE has revised the syllabus for the classes IX to XII during the academic session 2020-21 in the wake of the situation created by COVID-19.

In a circular issued to all the heads of the institutions affiliated to it, the CBSE had said that the revision of syllabi has been done due to the extraordinary situation prevailing in the country and different parts of the world.
