24-year-old accountant gives up over Rs 100-cr business to become a monk

Ahmedabad, Apr 21: A 24-year-old chartered accountant belonging to an affluent Jain family has embraced monkhood today. In the process, he has given up on his career and a family business worth over Rs. 100 crores.

Mokshesh Sheth managed his family business for two years after becoming a chartered accountant (CA). In a ceremony held in Gandhinagar today, he gave it all up and became a Jain monk. Life after accepting monkhood for Mokshesh Sheth would mean that he would be unable to enjoy luxury of a householder and has to be detached emotionally from other people, places or things.

From today onwards, the eldest son of Mumbai-based businessman Sandip Sheth, will be known as 'Karunapremvijay Jee', said his uncle Girish Sheth.

Mokshesh's family originally belongs to Deesa town of Banaskantha district in Gujarat and is now settled in Mumbai. The family is into aluminium business and Mokshesh handled the operations after becoming a chartered accountant in his first attempt.

Yesterday, 12-year-old Bhavya Shah from Surat, son of a millionaire diamond merchant also embraced monkhood. "I am happy to take the path of truth shown by God," Bhavya Shah said.

Palghar, Jun 15: A 22-year-old man who got married three days ago tested positive for novel coronavirus on Monday leading to the bride and 63 others who attended the function being quarantined in Palghar district in Maharashtra, an official said.

Jawhar Tehsildar Santosh Shinde said the man is a laboratory assistant.

"He got tested before marriage and the report had returned negative. However, his samples tested positive after marriage. The bride and 63 others who attended the ceremony have been quarantined," he said.

Palghar currently has 1,911 COVID-19 cases and 61 people have died of the infection so far.

New Delhi, Mar 16: A total of 110 cases of coronavirus, including 17 foreign nationals have been confirmed across India, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Sunday.

The maximum positive cases have been reported from Maharashtra (32), followed by Kerala (22).

The total number of passengers screened at airports is 12,76,046, the ministry said.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared that Europe has become the new 'epicentre' of the coronavirus pandemic that has infected more than 15 lakh people with over 6,000 deaths globally.

The virus had first emerged in China's Wuhan city in December last year.

Kolkata, Jan 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said a section of the youth is being misguided about the Citizenship Amendment Act and asserted that it will not take away anybody's citizenship.

Modi also said whoever has faith in India and believes in its Constitution can become an Indian citizen.

“There are a lot of questions among the youth about the new citizenship law, and some are being misled by rumours around it... it is our duty to clear their doubts,” the PM said during an address at Belur Math in Howrah district.

“I want to make this clear again that the CAA is not about taking away anybody's citizenship, but about granting citizenship,” he added.

Modi said that some people with political interests are deliberately spreading rumours about the new citizenship law.

Lauding the youth for speaking against religious persecution of minorities, the prime minister said the energy of the country's young will form the basis of change in the 21st century. The PM is on a two-day visit to the city.
