3 caught for dacoity bid confess to raping woman

Bengaluru, Jun 16: Police cracked an unreported gang rape when they arrested three drivers who were allegedly preparing to commit a dacoity near Mysore Sandal Soap factory, Yeshwantpur.

Autorickshaw drivers Bharath JK, 24, from Hassan and Pramod U, 21, from Mandya, and cabbie Harish M, from Tumakuru were arrested, but their three accomplices escaped.

Police said the trio later confessedtohave raped a 22-year-old woman six months ago. Police tracked the survivor to Madanayakanahalli and she confirmed the incident.

The trio had taken the woman for a ride in their car to a village in Mandya district where their friend Gunda joined them. The four men raped her, stole her gold earrings, chain, mobile and other valuables, police said. They abandoned her near Hirisave in Hassan district. The woman said she didn’t tell anyone,fearing for her life.

Visakhapatnam, Jun 30: Two people were killed and four others were taken ill after benzene gas leaked at a pharmaceutical company at Parawada near here early on Tuesday morning, official sources said.

The situation was now under control as the leak was restricted to one unit in the Sainor Life Sciences company, the sources said.

The two killed were senior employees of the company, they said.

The injured persons have been admitted to a hospital in Gajuwaka, with one of them being put on ventilator support, the sources added.

District Collector V Vinay Chand and Police Commissioner R K Meena visited the company to take stock of the situation.

The cause of the leak that took place in a reactor unit at the plant is yet to be established.

The incident comes nearly two months after 11 people were killed and over 1000 taken ill after gas leak at a chemical plant here.

Panaji, Feb 23: A MiG-29K aircraft crashed off Goa during a routine training sortie on Sunday morning, the Indian Navy said in a statement.

"The pilot ejected safely and has been recovered. An enquiry into the incident has been ordered," the statement said.

On November 16, a MiG-29K trainer flight had crashed after a bird hit, soon after it took off the Dabolim International airport, which functions out of the Indian Navy base INS Hansa.

Both pilots had managed to safely eject themselves to safety after both the engines of their jet failed.

According to data tabled in the recent budget session of the Goa Assembly, every ten days, at least one aircraft landing or taking off at Goa's Dabolim international airport faces dangers involving birds or stray dogs near the runway.

Yavatmal, May 19: Four migrant workers were killed and 15 others were injured after a bus they were travelling in crashed into a truck in Yavatmal on Tuesday morning.

The bus was travelling from Solapur to Jharkhand. More details are currently awaited.

This comes amid nationwide COVID-19 lockdown has been extended to May 31, albeit with some relaxations.
