3 years after dad’s suicide, Class 10 boy hangs self; death note asks cops not to visit school

Mangaluru, Aug 4: A 16-year-old boy has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Bettampady in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district under mysterious circumstances. 

The deceased has been identified as Shreeramana Kumar, a Class 10 student, and a resident of Bettampady.

According to police, the boy may have hanged himself between 12am and 6am on Friday. The victim has left behind a note where he has stated that no one is responsible for him to take the extreme step.

Based on the information provided by the school authorities and family members, the police said that the boy had not attended classes on Thursday, and was at home all day. The next day he was found hanging. 

Kumar’s family hailed from Sullia and shifted to Puttur after his father committed suicide by consuming poison three years ago. Kumar, along with his mother and older brother, who is going to college in Mangaluru, were staying with their uncle.

In his death note, Kumar has requested the police to refrain from visiting his school and questioning his family as part of the probe into the suicide. A case has been registered at the Puttur Rural police station.

Bengaluru, Jun 20: A 56-year-old head constable, who had tested positive for the coronavirus infection a couple of days ago and was undergoing treatment, died on Saturday, police said.

The deceased, attached to the Kalasipalya police station, was being treated at Victoria Hospital here, they said.

This the second death of a policeman in the state due to COVID-19. The first one was an assistant sub-inspector attached to the V V Puram traffic police station.

Officials said the deceased constable was among nine others who had tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, an ASI with the Wilson Garden traffic police station here has also reportedly tested positive. According to sources, the ASI is undergoing treatment at a designated hospital and the station has been sanitised. His contacts are being quarantined.

Bengaluru, Apr 5: An elderly couple from Bengaluru

with a travel history to Dubai joined the list of coronavirus patients in the state, taking the total number of cases to 146, the health department said on Sunday.

The list includes four deaths and 11 discharges.

The 68-year old man and his 62-year old wife, hailing from Madiwala in the city, had returned from Dubai on March 22.

They were quarantined at a private hospital and have been asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, the government appealed to people who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat Congregation in New Delhi to contact 080-29711171 Arogya Sahayavani, the medical helpline number.

Kasaragod, Apr 30: The Kasaragod District Collector Sajith Babu, his gun man and driver has entered in quarantine on Wednesday.

According to sources, the Collector had been asked to go on quarantine after the reports of a journalist, who interviewed him, was tested positive for the virus.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at his routine evening press conference revealed the positivity of the journalist.
