52 killed as bus falls into gorge in Telangana

Hyderabad, Sept 11: In one of the goriest accident in the history of State Road Transport Corporation, 52 passengers including 32 women and four children, died and 30 others were injured when a Telangana Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus belonging to Jagitial depot, fell into a gorge on Tuesday morning.

The bus which was fully packed with around 86 passengers were coming down from Kondagattu Hanuman temple when the accident occurred.

Many of the causalities are on the front side of the bus where many bodies were found crushed with the impact of the accident. The police suspect the accident took place due to the failure of brakes while the driver was negotiating a last turn on the ghat road down the hill at around 11.30 am before reaching the highway.

Technical Problem ruled out

Few survivors, however, said that the driver lost control over the vehicle as he has put the bus on neutral gear while coming down the ghat road. The driver of the bus Srinivas lost his life and conductor Parameshwar who was issuing tickets at that time was injured. TSRTC officials who ruled out technical problems say that the driver was not supposed to bring the Jagitial-Sanivarampet bus through the Ghat road.

All the bodies have been recovered and shifted to Jagitial government hospital. Injured have been shifted to Karimnagar. While the local villagers quickly jumped into action and took up the rescue works, Jagitial collector Sharath and superintendent of police Sindhu Sharma rushed to the spot along with the police forces to take up rescue operations.

Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed shock over the ghastly road accident. He expressed deep condolences on the loss of lives and injuries to others and directed the officials concerned to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured. State finance minister Eatala Rajender rushed to the spot which is 177 kilometres from here. The government has announced Rs 5 lakh exgratia to the kin of the deceased.

“The TSRTC will also announce exgratia. If there are farmers then there will be an addition of Rs 5 lakh from the farmer’s insurance scheme,” Rajender said adding that anyone with TRS membership will get Rs 2 lakh compensation. He assured that steps will be taken to see that such an incident will not repeat in future.

Washington, Aug 7: US President Donald Trump on Thursday (local time) signed executive orders halting all transactions with Chinese applications TikTok and WeChat within 45 days, citing national security concerns, further escalating the tensions between Beijing and Washington.

"WeChat, a messaging, social media, and electronic payment application owned by the Chinese company Tencent Holdings Ltd., reportedly has over one billion users worldwide, including users in the United States. Like TikTok, WeChat automatically captures vast swaths of information from its users. 

This data collection threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) access to Americans' personal and proprietary information," Trump said in a statement.

Citing reasons for the ban on WeChat, the US President said that the application captures the personal and proprietary information of Chinese nationals visiting the US, thereby providing the CCP a mechanism to keep tabs on the Chinese citizens who may be "enjoying the benefits of a free society for the first time in their lives".

"In March 2019, a researcher reportedly discovered a Chinese database containing billions of WeChat messages sent from users in not only China but also the United States, Taiwan, South Korea and Australia. WeChat, like TikTok, also reportedly censors content that the CCP deems politically sensitive and may also be used for disinformation campaigns that benefit the CCP. 

These risks have led other countries, including Australia and India, to begin restricting or banning the use of WeChat. The US must take aggressive action against the owner of WeChat to protect our national security," he added.

Earlier, Trump had issued an order banning TikTok as it "reportedly censors content that the CCP deems politically sensitive, such as content concerning protests in Hong Kong and China's treatment of Uighurs and other Muslim minorities. 

TikTok may also be used for disinformation campaigns that benefit the CCP."
US politicians have repeatedly criticised TikTok, owned by Beijing-based startup ByteDance, of being a threat to national security because of its ties to China.

The development comes as China and the US are at loggerheads on a variety of issues including Hong Kong national security law, the South China Sea, the novel coronavirus and trade.

Bengaluru, May 6: Central Crime Branch Police have nabbed 71 people involved in various crimes taking advantage of Lock-down which prevents movement of people in the street and seized stolen properties worth about Rs 1.70 crore, official said on Wednesday.

Police said that in all 56 cases were booked. In all 17,312 duplicate Sanitisers, 2000 lts of Chemicals, 18,750 fake Masks, 270 Thermometers and two cars were seized from the arrested culprits.

During the raid godowns where rice and dal meant for free distribution during lock-down were robbed and stored were also seized.

New Delhi, Feb 10: A 44-year-old man allegedly killed his daughter and son before ending his life by jumping in front of a Delhi metro train at Haiderpur Badli Mor station on Sunday, police said.

No suicide note has been recovered, but police claimed that the man, Madhur Malani, was depressed since his sandpaper-manufacturing factory was closed some six months ago due to financial crunch leaving him jobless. Madhur's parents had been supporting his family financially since then.

He used to stay with his wife Rupali, daughter Samiksha (14) and six-year-old son Shraiyans at a rented house in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area, they said.

Rupali was not at home when Madhur strangled their children. He might have also smothered their daughter but the exact cause of death would be ascertained only after the post-mortem reports arrive, a police official said.

After killing his two children, he jumped in front of an approaching train at Haiderpur Badli Mor Metro station following which he was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him 'brought dead', the official said.

Metro services on the Yellow Line were briefly delayed due to the incident.

"Delay in services from Samaypur Badli to GTB Nagar due to a passenger on track at Haiderpur Badli Mor," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tweeted.

After about 15 minutes, it again tweeted that normal services have been restored. The Delhi Metro's Yellow Line connects Samaypur Badli in Delhi to HUDA City Centre in Gurgaon.

The suicide was reported to the police around 5.40 pm while the Shalimar Bagh Police station received a call about the killings around 6.50 pm.

On reaching the house, police found bodies of the children lying in beds in two rooms. During enquiry, it was learnt that their father has left the house, a senior police officer said.

While police were trying to trace Madhur, they learnt about a suicide at the metro station. On verifying the details, it surfaced that Madhur committed suicide after killing his children, the officer said.

Rupali told police that she had gone to a nearby market around 3 pm and on returning home she found the bodies of her children while her husband was missing.

A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered and investigation was underway, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Vijayanta Arya said.
