80% office-bearers from AAP's Amritsar zone quit

Amritsar, Sep 6: Opening another front of rebellion in Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), 86 office-bearers of Amritsar zone resigned from the party's primary membership on Monday. They have quit citing "dictatorial behaviour" by party observers from outside Punjab.

aap The party office-bearers have also hinted at joining hands with the emerging fourth front, Awaaz-e-Punjab, led by former cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu.

"It was a difficult decision, but we decided to resign en masse from the primary membership of AAP," the party's Amritsar zone incharge Gurinder Singh Bajwa told TOI on Monday. He claimed that 80% members of AAP's Amritsar zone had resigned. He also claimed that members of seven more zones of Punjab would follow suit.

Those who resigned include in-charges of 36 circles, 34 sectors and 11 zones and five other office-bearers of party.

Bajwa said they would join AAP's former Punjab convenor Sucha Singh Chhotepur's `Punjab Parivartan Yatra' beginning from Gurdaspur from Tuesday and seek suggestions from volunteers before taking a final call on the next course of action.

Asked whether he was keen to join Awaaz-e-Punjab, Bajwa replied, "This is a front of honest persons, and we want such publicly acceptable persons to come on a single platform for the betterment of Punjab. We would want Chhotepur to hold meeting with Sidhu after completion of his statewide march." Bajwa said AAP's leaders, who were opposing Chhotepur, never thought for once that there were thousands of party workers who were attached with them from the time of Anna Hazare's movement of 2011. "It pained old AAP volunteers to see party tickets being given to those persons who never demonstrated on roads, pasted posters and raised slogans," he said.

Meanwhile, AAP's Amritsar spokesperson Gurbhej Singh alleged, "Those who were opposing Delhi team's decision were ticket-seekers and their dream was to become MLAs by riding on AAP's popularity among Punjabis."

Mangalore, Jan 16: Medical fraternity of the state are racing and thrilled to be participating in the upcoming Karnataka Medical Council election to be held on 23 Jan 2020 polling will be held at IMA House Mangalore by direct ballot.

The results will be announced on Jan 25, 2020.

This Election is a historic one since the inception of KMC, It is being conducted across the state by direct voting by all the registered MBBS doctors of the state for 12 seats numbering more than 65,000.

Karnataka govt to build guest house for Kannadiga pilgrims in Ayodhya

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Anticipating a huge number of pilgrims from Karnataka to start visiting Ayodhya following the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Ram temple, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Friday requested his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath for two acres of land to build a 'yatri nivas' (guest house).

"A large number of pilgrims from Karnataka would be visiting Ayodhya. The government of Karnataka wishes to construct a yatri nivas for the pilgrims visiting Ayodhya," Yediyurappa wrote to Yogi.

"I request you to grant two acres of land in Ayodhya for this purpose," he said.

The Chief Minister said the yatri nivas will be constructed for the benefit of pilgrims from the southern state.

He also congratulated the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister for successfully laying the foundation stone for the Ram temple on Wednesday.

Mysuru: Hotel owners cite coronavirus scare, ask MCC to remove food vends

Mysuru, Feb 14: Citing the coronavirus scare prevalent in the city, hotel owners have urged the civic corporation to shut down roadside food vends, calling them a risk to public health.

A team of the city Hotel Owners Association, led by president C Narayanagowda and honorary secretary Ravindra Bhat, met mayor Tasneem Bano and MCC commissioner Gurudatta Hegde on Tuesday and urged them to implement the high court’s ban on street food vending.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the association said it had raised the poor hygiene at such joints amid the coronavirus threat and increasing incidence of chikungunya and malaria in the city. There is no check on the ingredients or water used and the cleanliness of the kitchens and cooking staff, they pointed out. Many of the joints operate near drains and public urinals and don’t have running water for washing or cleaning utensils, they said. Besides, the vends dump unsegregated garbage and compromise pedestrian safety by blocking pavements, they alleged.

“As this involves the livelihood of the vendors, I will take a decision after discussions with the commissioner and elected representatives,” the mayor said while pointing out that MCC had issued identity cards to the vendors after collecting details about them and their stalls. She said the health and education standing committees would also be consulted.

Commissioner Hegde said MCC was planning to move the vendors to designated hawking zones to ensure their livelihood was not affected. He explained that any drive to remove the vends was fraught with law and order problems. “False cases have been filed against MCC officers whenever they conducted drives against footpath food vendors in non-hawking zones. We will consult with the city police commissioner before taking any steps,” he said.
