Kannur/Kasargod, May 19: Re-polling in seven booths in two Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala Sunday saw a voter turnout of 85 per cent.

The seven booths in Kannur and Kasargod constituencies in north Kerala went for re-poll following allegations of bogus voting during the single phase elections to 20 Lok Sabha segments in the state on April 23.

"As per the initial assessment, 85 per cent votes have been polled," a poll official told PTI after polling ended at 6 PM.

Police said there were no reports of any major untoward incident in the areas where the repoll was held.

In Kasargod, CPI(M) lodged a complaint with the District Electoral Officer alleging that UDF candidate Raj Mohan Unnithan approached the voters near the polling booth.

The UDF filed a complaint against P K Sreemathy Teacher, the LDF candidate in the Kannur constituency, alleging she tried to canvas the voters near the polling booth.

The re-polling has been ordered by the Election Commission in two booths each in Dharmadaom and Kalliassery, one each in Trikaripur, Pilathara and Taliparamba in Kannur and Kasargod constituencies where bogus votes were allegedly cast during the elections to 20 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Local television channels had aired CCTV visuals in which three women, later identified as activists of ruling CPI-M, were seen voting more than twice on April 23.

Later, three Congress-led UDF workers were also found to have cast bogus votes in Kasaragod constituency.

The LDF had released digital evidence of the bogus voting by two men, suspected to be IUML workers, in a polling booth in Kasaragod.

Women poll officials were deployed at the polling booths during the repoll to verify women coming to vote wearing face veil.

Kerala Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena had Satyurday said those who cover their face will have to reveal themselves before the concerned officer.

A controversy erupted in the state Saturday following CPI(M)s Kannur district secretary M V Jayarajan statement that women wearing the face veil should remove it during voting.

Opposition Congress has condemned his remarks.

New Delhi, April 6: On the 40th foundation day of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to party workers to reaffirm the importance of social distancing, help those in need amid lockdown and enable India to overcome COVID-19.

"Greetings to all fellow BJP Karyakartas on the Sthapana Diwas of the party. Tributes to all those who have toiled hard to build the party for decades, due to which BJP has got the opportunity to serve crores of Indians across our nation's length and breadth. #BJPat40," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

"Whenever BJP has got the opportunity to serve, the party has focused on good governance and empowering the poor. In line with the party's ethos, our Karyakartas have worked hard to bring a positive difference in the lives of many and done great social service.

We mark our party's 40th anniversary when India is battling COVID-19. I appeal to BJP Karyakartas to follow the set of guidelines from our party president JP Nadda Ji, help those in need and reaffirm the importance of social distancing. Let's make India COVID-19 free," he added.

Earlier, in a message, party President JP Nadda had asked BJP workers to hoist new party flag at all offices and at every karyakarta's house. "Maintain social distancing while hoisting," the BJP President stated.

"All BJP Karyakartas to give up one meal on our Foundation Day as a way to show solidarity with people facing hardships during the lockdown.

Provide food packets to 5+1 needy under #FeedtheNeedy program. In the next one week, put a system in place where we can provide two homemade face covers to each person at our booth. We should circulate videos of preparation and distribution of such face covers with #WearFaceCoverStaySafe," Nadda stated.

He also asked BJP Kartyakartas to encourage 40 others to donate Rs 100 each to PM-CARES Fund.

Hyderabad, Feb 28: The Cyber Crime Police of Hyderabad has registered an FIR against social media platforms- WhatsApp, Twitter and TikTok- for allowing people to spread anti-national activities, as per a complaint filed by one S Srishailam.

Raghuveer, Additional DCP Cyber Crimes said," We have received a court referred complaint, which was filed by S Srisailam in the concerned court stating that social media platforms Whatsapp, Twitter and TikTok are allowing few people to spread anti-national activities and videos."

S Srisailam also claimed that a few people are running a campaign against the CAA on social media platforms to spread hatred which in turn is causing damage to national integrity.

"In this regard, because the complaint was referred by a court a case has been registered against Whatsapp, Twitter & TikTok under the relevant section of Indian Penal Code and IT Act and took up the investigation," the DCP added.

He also added that the police cannot take action against these platforms as they are not banned in India but can initiate action against persons who intentionally indulge in spreading hatred.

"The police are conducting the investigation and if allegations of the complainant are found to be false then we will drop the case. We had received the case one week ago," informed the DCP.
