Aamir denies leaning on ladies to sell flats

March 22, 2014

Mumbai, Mar 22: Actor Aamir Khan today denied pressuring any resident of a housing society in Bandra to sell their flats to him so that the complex could be demolished and “redeveloped” to make room for a bungalow for him.

AamirPamela D’sa, 87, and daughter Dr Geneve D’sa, 50, had complained to the civic authorities last week about being pressured by the society’s managing committee to consent to the redevelopment scheme suggested by Aamir.

Under the plan, the actor would buy a 20,000sqft plot — 60 per cent of the Virgo Co-operative Housing Society’s total area in upscale Pali Hill — to build a bungalow for himself. Apartments would come up on the rest of the land for the other residents.

Aamir owns three flats in the complex but now lives in another society at Carter Road in Bandra.

“We would like to clarify on behalf of our client Mr Aamir Khan that he denies all allegations regarding him putting any pressure on his society to go in for redevelopment,” a statement by public relations agency Spice PR said this evening.

“…Mr Khan left the building more than a year ago, after an incident of a slab of concrete falling on the head of one of the members, resulting in his being hospitalised.”

It added: “Thereafter, over the months, in his absence, the society had several meetings and discussion regarding redevelopment. The general body eventually passed a resolution with 80 per cent majority members voting in favour of redevelopment.”

The statement went on: “Thereafter, the society made a request in writing to Mr Khan to make an offer. Mr Khan gave the matter due thought and made an offer. In his offer letter, he also suggested to the society to invite other offers to ensure best value for the society and its members. Mr Khan strongly denies any allegations of pressure tactics or misconduct on his part and takes strong exception to attempts being made to defame him.

The complex has two four-storey buildings, Marina Apartments and Bella Vista, with 12 flats each. Aamir owns two flats in Marina and one in Bella Vista; Pamela D’sa owns two flats in Marina and her daughter owns two garages in Bella Vista.

Aamir had moved a proposal for redevelopment in December 2011 and offered a rate of Rs 70,000 per sqft to those wishing to sell, media reports have said.

In December 2013, the society held a general body meeting to take a consent vote. According to the society, 18 of the 23 members voted in favour of the redevelopment plan while five, including the D’sa family, voted against.

However, the D’sas allege that only 14 members were present at the meeting contrary to the 75 per cent quorum required by the norms for redevelopment, and that the rest sent their consent in sealed envelopes.

H.M. Patil, deputy registrar of co-operative societies for the local ward, said he had sought a reply from the society’s managing committee. A hearing has been scheduled on April 15.

Los Angeles, May 24: Filmmaker Frank Marshall, one of the producers behind Jurassic World: Dominion, says the forthcoming film is not a conclusion of the franchise.

Colin Trevorrow, who rebooted Steven Spielberg's blockbuster Jurassic Park franchise with 2015's Jurassic World, is back on the director's chair after sitting out on second movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018).

Asked about the upcoming movie, Marshall told Collider: "It's the start of a new era."

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are coming back for the third film, which will also feature original stars of 1993's Jurassic Park -- Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill.

The producer also revealed how he sees the film franchise extending into the future.

"The dinosaurs are now on the mainland amongst us, and they will be for quite some time, I hope," Marshall said.

The film was three weeks into production when it was shut down over coronavirus concerns, but the producer said the team has the sets built in London and will be "back in business" once they have guidelines from the British government.

Dominion is still slated to be released on its scheduled date of June 11, 2021.

Mumbai, Jan 28: A 33-year-old woman has written to the National Commission for Women (NCW) alleging that Bollywood choreographer Ganesh Acharya used to make her watch porn videos whenever she visited his office in Mumbai.

In a complaint filed with the police, the woman, an assistant choreographer, has alleged that Acharya and two women assaulted her during a function of the Indian Film and Television Choreographers Association (IFTCA) held in suburban Andheri on Sunday.

Besides Acharya, the complainant, Divya Kotian, has named Jayashree Kelkar and Preeti Lad in her complaint for assault, a police official said on Tuesday.

Calls made to Acharya for his reaction remained unanswered.

In her letter to the NCW, Kotian, a resident of suburban Bhayandar, claimed that Acharya forced her to watch adult videos whenever she visited his office.

In her complaint with Amboli police station, Kotian alleged that Acharya was demanding a commission from her for working in the film industry.

Kotian is also a member of the IFTCA.

Acharya, who was elected as a general secretary of the IFTCA, used to frequently call the complainant at the office in Andheri, the police official said quoting the complaint.

On January 26, when Kotian reached the IFTCA office, Acharya shouted at her and announced that she was being "suspended", he said.

Acharya grew furious after Kotian told him that she is a member of the IFTCA and allegedly asked his team member, Jayashree Kelkar, to slap her, the police official said.

"Kelkar and Preeti Lad hit me in public view which was captured on the CCTV," the complaint stated.

Police have registered a non-cognisable (NC) offence and investigating, the official added.

Mumbai,  Aug 7: Unless Maharashtra Government consents to CBI investigation in the Sushant Singh Rajput's death case, it would be illegal, affecting the federal structure of the country, said actor Rhea Chakraborty's lawyer.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered and continued the illegality which was perpetrated at the hands of Bihar Police in connection with the case, he added.

"The Bihar Government transferred a case with which it had no jurisdiction to investigate, to CBI instead of the Mumbai Police which is the legal position. The Supreme Court is seized of the issue pursuant to the transfer petition filed by Rhea Chakraborty," said Satish Maneshinde Chakraborty's lawyer.

The Supreme Court has directed all parties to file their replies and Mumbai Police is directed to place the report of investigations, he added.

"Pending the said proceedings the CBI has registered and continued the illegality which was perpetrated at the hands of Bihar Police.

CBI being a premier investigative agency in the country should desist from taking any further steps pending the SC proceedings. Apart from the same unless the Maharashtra Government consents to CBI investigating the case ... it would be totally illegal and beyond any known legal principles, affecting the Federal Structure of the Nation," said Maneshinde.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the CBI that is probing high profile cases of Vijay Mallya and AgustaWestland cases will now investigate the Sushant Singh Rajput's death case.

The investigating agency has registered a case against six accused including Bollywood actor Rhea Chakraborty and others in connection with the Rajput's death.

The sources in CBI said that six accused in the case will be summoned soon for questioning and other persons will also be called for examining which was earlier examined by Mumbai police.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had earlier sent a recommendation to the Central Government for CBI investigation in the case filed in Patna based on the complaint of Sushant's father KK Singh against Rhea Chakraborty under sections including abetment of suicide on July 25.

Sushant was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14.

Days after Rajput's death, Rhea Chakraborty said she was the "girlfriend" of the 'Dil Bechara' actor while requesting a CBI inquiry in the case.

Chakraborty has also approached the Supreme Court for transfer of investigation to Mumbai in the FIR registered against her in Patna.
