Riyadh: The Dakshina Karnataka Muslim Okkoota (DKMO), Riyadh, conducted its annual general body meeting on 8th April 2016, at the Maqsoura conference hall of the East Ramada Hotel Riyadh - KSA. The meeting was attended by over 100 members, who represented from most of the Taluks of south karnataka.

DKMO – Riyadh since its existence it is in the forefront for the support of community members at the time of need. DKMO has been working hard on their unique program FRF (Family Relief Fund) scheme, so far DKMO has donated seven such cases each with an average of 1.5 lacks to the family of the deceased member back home. Over the years DKMO also provided air tickets to repatriate some ailing brothers who could not afford to pay for it. DKMO has also funded a library, print media, and patients at govt. Hospitals back home, supported poor students for their education, contributed to more than 25 relief works. Under its new Anti-Dowry Project Contributed to Mass Marriages & arranged some Anti Dowry awareness programs back home. DKMO also contributed and strived to collect funds for the release of an imprisoned brother in Saudi Arabia. DKMO very proudly announce that it has contributed to pursue higher education to lady doctor.

Meeting commenced immediately after the Friday prayers, with the recitation of a verses of the Holy Quran by Br. Dawood Kajemar.

Brother Basheer Thalapady welcomed the gathering and expressed his gratitude to all the DKMO life members, office bearers, Sponsors, Well Wishers and briefed the audience about the achievements of DKMO since its inception then welcomed Br. Abdulazeez Bajpe President DKMO, Br.Fazlurahman Kolkar General Secretary, Br.Abbas Uchil Treasurer to the dais with the chief guest Br. Akhtar Sheikh the former Ameer of Jamaithul Falah & Br. Parvez Ali President KMYA Riyadh.

Gen Secretary Br. Fazlurahman presented a comprehensive report on the activities of DKMO during the year 2015-16 with a slide show. This included the reports on the DKMO’s special charity programs like family relief fund, medical aid, loan Scheme and education aid to the members and their family back home. Also provided a detailed presentation regarding new project ANTI Dowry Campaign which is the new social program by DKMO.

Treasurer Br. Abbas Uchil gave detailed presentation of Annual financial report for the year 2015 – 16, & got the approval from the Members then financial statement was approved with applause of “Allahu Akbar”.

Chief Guest Brother Akhtar Shaikh said work together for the benefit of our community and requested all members to continue their kind support and co-operation. Also he stressed that all members must try level best to attend all meetings and give their suggestion to maintain a strong bond between them so that any goal can be achieved easily. Another chief Guest Br. Parvez Ali urged to serve the poor and needy .He further said that we are lucky to have this opportunity and a great platform like DKMO to serve the community, and DKMO one of the best organization for the NRI'S which will definitely reward us in this world and the world here after. He urged all the youngsters to join and support DKMO to carry forward the noble mission.

President Br. Abdulazeez Bajpe then dissolved the existing committee with brief address and he thanked the members and committee for their support during his tenure.

Br. Shafi Thodar & Br. Elyas Yermal were facilitated with Certificate of Appreciation for enrolling highest life members for DKMO in the year 2015-2016

Br. Althar Sheikh and Br. Pervez Ali conducted the elections for the year 2016 – 17 . Members were asked join the new committee voluntarily and support in carrying out the noble task. With lot of interest 37 members joined the new committee. The office bearers for the new committee were elected unanimously and the list is as follows:

Kuwait: Eid is usually a time of family get-togethers and feasts after weeks of dawn-to-dusk fasting. But this year people celebrated at home, with virus fears dampening the holiday spirit and strict restrictions in place.

Kuwait went under full curfew before the start of Ramadan leaving people to practice fasting and Ramadan rituals at home, Even Eid al-Fitr came under full lock-down period.

As situation demanded, IMA Kuwait celebrated the Eid Get-together online via video conferencing tool, All IMA members participated joyfully in Eid Milan online gathering which was scheduled immediately after Eid prayer. Members participated and congratulated each other on the eve of Eid.

The IMA president Shamvel Parviz addressed the gathering and thanked them for joining online for this unique Eid celebration which will be remembered in history. He also advised members to be aware of conditions of neighbors, friends and family and assist them if they need help in this difficult time.

Eid al-Fitr follows weeks of fasting and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Thousands of Muslims all over Kuwait followed strict guideline and performed Eid prayer at home along with their family.

As a part of social service activities IMA also distributed ration kits before start of Ramadan and during Ramadan for needy people all over Kuwait.

Doha: Selvam aged 46 son of Subramanian hailing from Panakulam Village, Alangudi, Pudukkottai District in Tamilnadu province who worked as a technician, died in Qatar on April 24.

Due to challenging situation prevailing in both India & Qatar for body repatriation services, especially in Covid-19 atmosphere, Family is unable to progress further for past 2 months. At his stage Family of the deceased met Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Pudukkottai office bearers and requested to intervene and help out, and also agreed to bury the body in Qatar itself.

Hence, SDPI delegates communicated with well-known Indian Expatriate welfare Organization - Qatar Indian Social Forum (QISF). QISF General Secretary Basheer Ahamed, Secretary Abdullatheef Madikeri and team collected the required documents from the family of the deceased and managed to clear all the necessary formalities from the police department, Health Department, Embassy of India and Hamad Medical Corporation within a short period of time and arranged for a peaceful burial of Mr. Selvam in Dukhan cemetery.

Kuwait: State of Karnataka is enriched with Daasa culture, which had contributed immensely to its literature, culture, art & philosophy. Daasa tradition in Karnataka was part of the Bhakti movement which flourished from around 15th century and it extended considerable spiritual influence over the masses. Kuwait Kannada Koota, a socio-cultural association for the people of Karnataka in Kuwait, organized its annual Daasotsava on 14th February 2020 in remembrance of these saints, thereby displaying the rich cultural heritage of the state. 

The program started with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath, convener of cultural committee. Divine invocation prayer by Mrs. Vasantha Ashok and Mrs. Sandhya Arun set the trend for the event. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the 2020 executive committee, comprising of President Mr. Rajesh Vittal, Vice President Mr. Sandeep Chabba, General Secretary Mr. Praveen Kumar Shetty and Treasurer Mr. Pradeep Rao. President, while welcoming the gathering, spoke about the importance of Daasas in Kannada literature & history and briefed about the series of upcoming programs. Cultural programs started with fancy dress competition by Koota children comprising of all age group starting from infants to elder kids. This program stole the show as the efforts & time invested by children and their parents were clearly visible. 

2019 executive committee was felicitated by the current committee for wonderfully managing Koota affairs & programs. This was followed by the release of Koota magazine “Marala Mallige", comprising of informative articles, drawings, poems etc., entirely contributed by the association members. Event’s main attraction “Vrindavana Leelavarana", a colorful dance drama spectacularly portrayed by 54 Koota children, was very well appreciated & received by the attendees. Association children who successfully completed 10th and 12th were felicitated as a token of encouragement. Executive committee gave away prizes to Kids who excelled in the stage competitions held earlier. Audience was treated to a divine and melodious Bhajan program conducted astutely by the ladies & men. Koota women performed Bhajan Kolata, along with ladies bhajan, in a well-coordinated manner. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of Koota, thanking those who contributed for the success of the event. Another attraction was a quiz competition “Rasa Prashne", conducted efficiently between the programs, by Mr. Mahesh Shiramgond. 

The whole event was planned and executed astutely by the cultural committee under the leadership of Convener, Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath. Public Relations Committee, led by Mrs. Suparna Dambal, welcomed the members in a vibrant & colorful way, showcasing a beautifully erected divine mantap. The event was sponsored by Unimoni, LIC HFL, VSPL, Geetherb, Kotak Life Insurance, Joy Alukkas, Lulu Hypermarket & Total Environment. The program ended with a sumptuous satvik lunch, sponsored by the senior Koota member, Mr. Ramachandran Seetharaman.
