Abu Dhabi: Feast of entertainment at KCO’s Fiesta

Abu Dhabi: ‘Fiesta 2015’, which marked the 20th anniversary of Konkani Cultural Organisation (KCO) concluded with a glittering extravaganza at Abu Dhabi Country club in the midst of well attended dignitaries and a packed audience of Mangalurean/Goan community in the UAE.

It was 'entertainment, entertainment and entertainment' all the way at the Abu Dhabi Country Club on Friday May 8, when KCO's 'Fiesta 2015' unfurled with a splendid variety entertainment much to the delight of the Mangalurean and Goan audience. It was an apt occasion to celebrate the 20 years of eventful journey of KCO Abu Dhabi befitting its illustrious existence and the selfless service towards the community in the UAE and in India.

KCO’s annual event lived up to its promise with continuous entertainment throughout the evening with a musical mix of Konkani, Hindi and English numbers belted out by the artistes specially flown in from Mangaluru - Melwyn Peris, Anita D'Souza, Robin and Zeena - and the vivacious and evergreen Lorna all the way from Goa, and the very popular Rameiro’s Band which pepped up the musical feast.

The programme commenced at 6.15 pm with a prayer led by Fr Joseph Martis, rector of St Joseph’s Seminary, Jeppu, Mangaluru and prayer song led by Rupert Vaz followed by KCO's theme welcome song rendered by KCO members, which laid the perfect start to the evening.

Entertainment Galore

As part of the celebration, entertainment was in plenty. The festive mood was all over the place and was evident in the manner the audience participated.

Legendary Lorna took the centre stage by commencing her immortal rendition with her powerful voice defying her age. Her presence on the stage and her energy in rendering her famous songs encouraged the appreciative audience to step on the floor.

Melwyn Peris with his golden silky voice mesmerized crowd presenting melody after melody, accompanied by the talented multi-lingual singer Anitha, ably supported by Zeena and Robin and they rendered melodies one after another. The new find Robin mesmerized the crowd with energetic performance. Foot-tapping music by Ramiro’s Band was commendable and had the crowd dancing all the way. As the night progressed, the tempo of music escalated with the audience enjoying themselves in the festive atmosphere. Another new feature in the evening’s activities was the colourful Latino dance which added colour and variety to the proceedings.

The guests of honour for the show were Pavan Kumar Rai, first secretary at the Indian Embassy, Abu Dhabi and Fr Joseph Martis, rector, St Joseph's Seminary, Jeppu, Mangaluru.

Another highlight was the theme song, rendered by the members of KCO to show their unity and solidarity specially composed for the event. The ever popular raffle draw with attractive prizes like air tickets by Air India, gold coin, large screen TV, smartphone, Tefal cookery sets and a host of other prizes got good response.

The spectacular evening concluded with the baila session with the audience dancing to their contentment, 'Lovdate' in the wee hours of the morning - at 1.30 am - to be precise.

Masters of ceremony Roshan D'Silva did a commendable job keeping the audience on their toes.

The success of the show was the result of meticulous planning, dedicated preparation, excellent arrangement and professional performance by all entertainers. This event showcased the unity and organizational capabilities of KCO members who worked hand in hand for the success of this show.

Completion of 20 successful years serving community, preserving and promoting Konkani flavour in the Gulf by itself is a major achievement for any organization.

Manama: Kannada Sangha Bahrain President Mr. Pradeep Shetty and Vice President of Bahrain's prestigious KHK HEROES Foundation Mohammed Mansoor on Monday, May 11, met The Second Secretary (Consular & CW) of the Embassy of India, Bahrain Mr. P. K. Chowdhury in the Indian Embassy. 

The situation, problems and relief of Indians and Kannadigas residing in Bahrain during the COVID 19 Pandemic was discussed in detail. The distribution of food (dry ration) kits, as well as those seeking repatriation, was also discussed in the meeting.

When asked about the repatriation of distressed Kannadigas, the Second Secretary said that though the number of Kannadigas who wish to return home is not much compared to the rest of the states, still Embassy is compiling all the information and will do the needful soon. 

Mr. Shetty and Mr. Mansoor told the Second Secretary that those who are in problem can contact them and they are ready to do their best.

Kuwait: State of Karnataka is enriched with Daasa culture, which had contributed immensely to its literature, culture, art & philosophy. Daasa tradition in Karnataka was part of the Bhakti movement which flourished from around 15th century and it extended considerable spiritual influence over the masses. Kuwait Kannada Koota, a socio-cultural association for the people of Karnataka in Kuwait, organized its annual Daasotsava on 14th February 2020 in remembrance of these saints, thereby displaying the rich cultural heritage of the state. 

The program started with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath, convener of cultural committee. Divine invocation prayer by Mrs. Vasantha Ashok and Mrs. Sandhya Arun set the trend for the event. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the 2020 executive committee, comprising of President Mr. Rajesh Vittal, Vice President Mr. Sandeep Chabba, General Secretary Mr. Praveen Kumar Shetty and Treasurer Mr. Pradeep Rao. President, while welcoming the gathering, spoke about the importance of Daasas in Kannada literature & history and briefed about the series of upcoming programs. Cultural programs started with fancy dress competition by Koota children comprising of all age group starting from infants to elder kids. This program stole the show as the efforts & time invested by children and their parents were clearly visible. 

2019 executive committee was felicitated by the current committee for wonderfully managing Koota affairs & programs. This was followed by the release of Koota magazine “Marala Mallige", comprising of informative articles, drawings, poems etc., entirely contributed by the association members. Event’s main attraction “Vrindavana Leelavarana", a colorful dance drama spectacularly portrayed by 54 Koota children, was very well appreciated & received by the attendees. Association children who successfully completed 10th and 12th were felicitated as a token of encouragement. Executive committee gave away prizes to Kids who excelled in the stage competitions held earlier. Audience was treated to a divine and melodious Bhajan program conducted astutely by the ladies & men. Koota women performed Bhajan Kolata, along with ladies bhajan, in a well-coordinated manner. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of Koota, thanking those who contributed for the success of the event. Another attraction was a quiz competition “Rasa Prashne", conducted efficiently between the programs, by Mr. Mahesh Shiramgond. 

The whole event was planned and executed astutely by the cultural committee under the leadership of Convener, Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath. Public Relations Committee, led by Mrs. Suparna Dambal, welcomed the members in a vibrant & colorful way, showcasing a beautifully erected divine mantap. The event was sponsored by Unimoni, LIC HFL, VSPL, Geetherb, Kotak Life Insurance, Joy Alukkas, Lulu Hypermarket & Total Environment. The program ended with a sumptuous satvik lunch, sponsored by the senior Koota member, Mr. Ramachandran Seetharaman.

Indian Social Forum, Eastern Province Central Committee, Saudi Arabia organized Republic Day program at AlRyan Policlinic Restaurant Auditorium, Dammam on 25th January 2020.

Abdul Waris, Former Chairman of Indian International School Dammam Inaugurated the program.
