Abu Dhabi: Friday Chargers lift Mangalore Cup-2016

Abu Dhabi: Mangalore cup 2016-Season 4 over-arm-hard-tennis-MRI ball cricket tournament was held under the auspices of Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium Oval green grass ground, here.

Vincent, Managing Director of Royal Institute of Music and Arts inaugurated the event along with Latheef KH - President of Mangalore Cricket Club.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Vincent said “Mangalore cricket club is doing magnificent exertion since four years for encouraging NRI Indians cricketers, it virtuous platform for Indian NRI cricketers to exhibit their talent at international cricket ground’’

 

As many as 20 teams from places across the United Arab Emirates participated in the event. Several sixes and super catches enthralled the audience. All the participating teams played to their best attempt keeping the scores and sprits very high. Match took place in 2 green grass grounds simultaneously.

 

In the exciting final battle of 'Mangalore Cup 2016' - Season 4 Friday Chargers showed remarkable performance and emerged as winners against the equally challenging Oxford Marine Dubai. In the finals both teams’ players put up a great show. Friday Charges entitled for 8000/- AED Cash award, Winner Trophy and Medals. Meantime Oxford Marine received 5000/- AED Cash award, Runner-up Trophy & Medals. Moreover Oxford Marine was also lifted Runner-up Trophy in Mangalore cup – 2015.

 

Friday Chargers bowlers and batsmen showed classic performance to remain unbeaten till the end They beat strong teams of UAE, Pacific Ventures in the first round, Shanan Stars in the Quarter Finals and Capture United in the Semi's. Oxford Marine too fought some tough contenders to remain in the finals. Capture United settled for second runner-up beating MCC Abu Dhabi in a deciding match.

During the presentation ceremony, event sponsors and MCC Executive Board members were present. MCC president Latheef KH honored the sponsors with mementos.

Ronald Pinto during his message congratulated MCC team for their dedication and zeal in organizing a big tournament and wished them all the success in future. He encouraged them to have the tournament at the Abu Dhabi International Cricket Main Stadium ground in the future days. He also congratulated the winning teams and participating teams for playing with good sportsman spirit.

Dubai, Aug 6: Non-resident Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dewakara Alva passed away on Thursday August 6. He was 63.

Alva, who hailed from Mangaluru, was the director of Federal Insurance Brokers LLC, Dubai and was residing in Dubai for around four decades. He was reportedly suffering from health problems for last few months. 

He was a patron of Tulu and Kannada language and culture in United Arab Emirates. He was a member of various NRI organizations including UAE Tulu Koota and UAE Bunts

Alva is survived by wife Saritha, daughter Powshali, and son Manal.

Dubai: In response to UAE health authorities encourage blood donation campaign Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta - U.A.E, conducted blood donation camps on April 22 at Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and on 23/04/2020 at Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah.

The Abu Dhabi camp was inaugurated by Head of Department of Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, On this occasion she gave brief inputs of the benefits and features of blood donation, urged the participants to spread greater awareness about the importance of blood donation and congratulated the AKO members for their selfless social service and wished all the best for their future endeavours.

Abdul Rasheed, President of AKO presided over the function and Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta Vice President Mr. Mohammad Nasir appreciated the effort for organizing this camp and gathering youths to be a part of this noble cause as life is precious on this earth. "Each drop of blood counts much, so kindly take it as personal compassion to help unknown who requires blood with no relatives to help him/her.

In Abu Dhabi 41 and in Sharjah 49 donors participated in this event and donated their blood. It was nice to see cheerful smiling donors doing a great community work.
Blood bank staff and AKO Organizing team enthusiastically arranged the campaign which was witnessed by many members and leaders of various community organization of Karnataka.

Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta President briefed the participates about the ongoing social work of AKO in this current COVID-19 pandemic grim situation AKO is working on following fields: AKO Members have stepped up to support needy community during the Covid-19 pandemic have gone out of their way to comfort those struggling to deal with the challenging situation.

While thousands of people continue to #StayHome, many are in quarantine, there are those on visit visa and stuck here, others have lost jobs or face salary cuts. AKO in coordination with UAE Embassy and other social organization have been able to ensure basic necessities are fulfilled with food provisions and medical assistance to needy.

Providing counselling to bachelors and families those are on quarantine and isolation.

The organizers thanked everybody especially, UAE Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah, Management and staff as well as donors for their time and support for the good cause.

Doha: Selvam aged 46 son of Subramanian hailing from Panakulam Village, Alangudi, Pudukkottai District in Tamilnadu province who worked as a technician, died in Qatar on April 24.

Due to challenging situation prevailing in both India & Qatar for body repatriation services, especially in Covid-19 atmosphere, Family is unable to progress further for past 2 months. At his stage Family of the deceased met Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Pudukkottai office bearers and requested to intervene and help out, and also agreed to bury the body in Qatar itself.

Hence, SDPI delegates communicated with well-known Indian Expatriate welfare Organization - Qatar Indian Social Forum (QISF). QISF General Secretary Basheer Ahamed, Secretary Abdullatheef Madikeri and team collected the required documents from the family of the deceased and managed to clear all the necessary formalities from the police department, Health Department, Embassy of India and Hamad Medical Corporation within a short period of time and arranged for a peaceful burial of Mr. Selvam in Dukhan cemetery.
