Abu Dhabi: Konkani community celebrates St Francis Xavier’s Festival

Abu Dhabi: The Konkani Community of St. Paul’s Catholic Church Mussafah, Abu Dhabi celebrated St. Francis Xavier’s Festival with a great fervor on Saturday, 3rd December 2016. The Holy Mass started at 5.30 pm with a procession with carrying the statue of St. Francis Xavier in a cradle to the Alter by Community members followed by Alter Servers, Lay Ministers and Priests. The main celebrant of the Festive Mass was Rev. Fr. Ashok Gonsalves, Spiritual Director, Konkani Community and co-celebrant Rev. Fr. Ani Xavier, Parish Priest. A large number of crowed over 400 attended the mass. At the beginning of the Mass novena of St. Francis Xavier was recited.

On conclusion of the Holy Mass, the faithfuls’ were directed to proceed to the basement for cultural programme followed by fellowship meal. The Master of Ceremony of the evening was conducted by Nathaline Goddad and Maria Pereira. The main Coordinator of Konkani community Apex Team, Robert Pintorequested Rev. Fr. Ani Xavier, Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Eugene, Asst. Parish Priest and Rev. Fr. Biju, Asst. Parish Priest along with Guest of Honors Lancy D’Souza, Benny Travasso, Robert D’Souza and Richard Castelino for felicitation and appreciated for their continued support for the Konkani community.
The celebration began by traditional lighting of Lamps by Apex Team Members, Priests, Guest of Honoursfollowed by cutting of the cake. In the meantime, cake and juice was served to all guests. Rev. Fr. Ani Xavier spoke and appreciated the unity among the community and Rev. Fr. Ashok and Rev. Fr. Eugene spoke on the occasion, congratulated the members of the community, and appreciated for their efforts in building strong spiritual foundation within the community. Lancy D’Souza and Benny Travasso and Richard Castelino also praised the efforts of young community and appreciated the hard work. In order to start the culturalprogramme, MC directed all Priests and Guest of Honors to their seat.
A welcome prayer dance was performed by the children, followed by a filmy dance. Then a witty comedy skit performed by Mussafah youngsters, which enjoyed by all. Thereafter, our little masters performed an eye-catching dance. Thus the classy cultural show of the evening was concluded by a Mando singing and Baila dance. In between the programmes, spot games were conducted and gifts were distributed to children. A vote of thanks was given by the Apex Team member and MC has requested all people to have sumptuous dinner and fellowship meal. During the dinner, breathtaking Konkani Baila dance and folklore singing was conducted by melodious Konkani Choir. Rev. Fr. Ashok Gonsalvesconcluded the ceremony with a prayer with and hymn Argatukasomiya followed by Laudate.It was a fun filled memorable evening for all Konkani community members.

Dammam: Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka chapter organized a "Live along with COVID-19" webinar on 29 May 2020 in association with HealthCare Polyclinic, Dammam.

The webinar at Zoom App. featured over 150+ resident Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia's eastern and neighboring provinces.

Dr. Shailendranath made a presentation on the program and gave useful information. Indian Social Forum Dammam, Karnataka Chapter President Sharif Joktake delivered the keynote address. General Secretary Irshad Jokatte stalled the program.

Dubai: A non-profitable social organization, KSCC is delivering a great service to the community during this pandemic situation.

Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club is a civil organization registered under Community Development Authority (CDA) involved in implementing various UAE government initiatives, blood donation drives, health campaigns, sport events, charity works, awareness programs and much more.

KSCC is currently actively liaising with Dubai government authorities in discharging the needs and requirements of the people in these challenging covid-19 pandemic times. It is also involved the activities such as logistics, coordinating stores, mobilizing isolation centers, equipping quarantine facilities and volunteering services.

During these testing times, KSCC is also facilitating the Guidance to the general public, follow-up up to 122 covid positive cases, counselling the affected, assisting the references and providing the ever-necessary emotional support by setting up a team of 24 reserved persons for call center helplines.

As per the request from DHA (Dubai Health Authority) KSCC has successfully organized the blood donation drive and donated upto 141 units of blood with the help of KSCC members & supporters.

Apart from above, KSCC is also engaged in serving needy by distributing the food provisional kit (Yestahloon) from the very 1st day of lockdown till day by their special task force team under guidelines of CDA, and also taking into consideration the month of Ramadan, team is successfully distributing Iftar food & provision kit with the help of donors.

In the 1st Phase, KSCC covered 2421 beneficiaries by providing 440 provisional food kits, 435 food pack and 529 Iftar kits.

As per the CDA guidelines, club is also engaged in following up the health condition of senior citizens living in UAE.

KSCC special team is also engaged in clearing documentation and formalities related to dead body repatriation until its final procedures and handing over to relatives with help of UAE governments authorities. Total 5 dead bodies are repatriated in their 1st phase of service.

KSCC is also having a center controlled special task team to assist all above activities during the covid-19 pandemic to continue the services to general public.

KSCC thanks all Government authorities, Members in different task team, supporters and Sponsors company MAERSK, MALABAR GOLD & DIAMOND and TAMIL ENTREPRENEUR for their support and also request extend their support to consolidate the above demanding service and deliver our best possible assistance not only because it is the month of Ramadan, but also our responsibility to reach out to the poor and needy, during this fight against Covid-19.

Dammam: President of Indian Social Forum, Eastern Province Mr.Wasim Rabbani urged immediate intervention of Indian government to help Non Residential Indians who are in trouble due to corona pandemic in Saudi Arabia.

He said in a press rease that expatriate Indians are in concern  as number of corona infected people and  deaths are increasing in danger level.

Hea said, "the Saudi health minister's statement a few days ago indicates that the situation in Saudi needs to be taken more seriously with precautionary methods. There are concerns among expatriates because the number of people infected with the coronavirus and the number of deaths reported in various provinces are increasing at an alarming rate."

"Saudi Government and Health Ministry are taking excellent precautionary measures, however, in the coming days expect to see the number of cases to increase in Saudi Arabia. The Indian government needs to take diplomatic and immediate intervention to ensure the treatment of Indian expatriates considering the number of effected people increasing", He said.

He also urged that the Embassy and the Government of India should ensure qaurantiane faculty for Indian expatriates and arrange special low cost flights to bring back expatriates who would like to return home country.

" Government of India and Indian embassy need to intervene immediately to ensure that the quarantine system is in place for Indian expatriates as the facilities in the rooms where the residents are staying together are very limited. There should also be a mechanism to organize low-cost flight services for expatriates who are ready to go home. The government system should also be able to accommodate the expatriates in special quarantine areas in hometown as soon they arrive in India", he urged.
