Abu Dhabi: 'Young Indians' lift ‘Mangalore Cup-2014’

Abu Dhabi, Mar 30: Season 2 of Mangalore cup 2014 over-arm cricket tournament was held under the auspices of the Mangalorean Cricket Club (MCC) at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Ground, here.

As many as 20 Karnataka teams from places across the United Arab Emirates participated in the event. Several sixes and super catches enthralled the audience.

In the finals battle Young Indians won against Al Sittara cricketers. Al Sithara cricketers became Runner-up of the tournament. Ayan cricketers dubai, MCC reached to the semifinals. Mangalore cup -2013 winners Suratkal stars and Nafis Dubai was out of the tournament in league matches.

Winner cash award AED 5014/- was sponsored by Yousuf Al shami Managing Director – Royal Electronic wheel balance. Runner-up Cash award AED 3014/- was sponsored by - C. Leo Rodrigus Managing Director Al Mazroui & Clevy Automobile services.

Winner Trophy was sponsored by Sheikh Bava Haji Managing Director Mina Mobile phone & Electronics Trading.

Runner-up Trophy was sponsored by Walter Almeida Managing Director Regal furnishings & storage systems.

Vincent Dsliva, Managing Director of Royal Institute of Music and Arts inauguration the event said that, playing cricket can help any person have a better-rounded and happier life because it involves running, jumping and other exercises that make someone fit and helps a person to get stronger hence overcoming health problems like cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Prize distribution and winding up ceremony was chaired by Shekar Shetty, Managing Director Arab Udupi restaurant. Yahya Abbas – Manager Emirates National Est  Stevedoring Zayed Port Welcomed the gathering, in a key note address he appreciated the initiative of Mangalorean cricket club to bringing all UAE Kannadiga cricket lovers under one umbrella.

Dubai: Karnataka Sports & Cultural Club (KSCC) distributed Eid Kit across the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah to the ) needy people on Eid al Fitr.

KSCC President Mr. Mohammed Ismail Said: “Eid is a Symbol of Gratitude and Unity. As the last few weeks have been hard for each one of us, we wanted to stand in solidarity to celebrate Eid, by helping labours and needy people. He also said that “We are together to be part of UAE. Serving these meals is our core social responsibility."

KSCC recently conducted humanitarian services during COVID-19 pandemic in 2 phases and conducted Blood Donation Drive. They have also planned to conduct next Blood Donation Drive on 25th May, 2020.

The KSCC main objective is to develop the expatriate community into a well-nourished section of society in the areas of social, sports and cultural activities.

Dubai, Aug 7: One may call it good luck, but for two Indian expats it was God who prevented them at the last minute from boarding the Air India Express plane that crashed in Kerala, killing at least 18 people on board.

According to India's Civil Aviation Ministry, the Boeing 737 aircraft on a flight from Dubai to Kozhikode overshot the runway at Kozhikode airport on Friday evening. There were 184 passengers including 10 infants, 2 pilots and four cabin crew onboard the aircraft.

Noufal Moin Vetten, an Ajman resident working as an office boy in a Sharjah school, was booked to travel on the flight and had checked in as per schedule.

Recounting his miraculous escape, Vetten, a resident of Malappuram, Thirunavaya, whose visa was cancelled a week ago, told Gulf News: “I was handed my boarding pass, but when I reached immigration, they told me I had to pay a fine of Dh 1,000 (Rs 20,430) for overstay. I had only Dh 500 (Rs10,215) with me.

"I called my school PRO and he told me to come back. He said they would follow protocols and pay the fines before sending me,“ he said.

Vetten was disappointed and called his family to let them know.

“When I heard about the crash, I was saddened for all the passengers. But I'm so relieved I missed it. God has been really merciful,” said Vetten.

Afsal Parrakodan, a resident of Abu Dhabi, had a similar stroke of luck.

“My work visa was cancelled about a week ago. After getting my boarding pass, I was told I had to pay a fine of Dh1,000 at the immigration counter, but I had only Dh500 on me.”

“I was very keen to board the flight and be with my family. So I called a friend who brought me the additional Dh500, but by then, my baggage had been offloaded and the flight's doors were closed,” said Parrakodan.

“I was feeling very sad and called my mother to tell her I had missed the flight. But a few hours later, when I learnt of the crash, I couldn’t help but feel relieved and thankful to God for saving my life,“ said an overwhelmed Parrakodan who plans to fly back next week.

Dammam: Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka chapter distributed Food Kits for Indian expatriates labors who were in trouble due to Corona lockdown on April 6, 2020 at a labor camp here in Al Khobar.

The labors, most of them are from the staes of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh And Uttar Pradesh, were in trouble without food.

 Recieving the information leaders of Indian Social Forum immediately visited the camp to take survey.

Indian Social Forum with the help of donors distributed food kits. Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka Chapter president Mr.Mohammed Shareef Jokatte expressed gratitude for donors for their contribution.
