Actor Sudeep holds breakfast meeting with HDK after his uncle joins Congress

Bengaluru, Apr 3: Actor Sudeep, who had meet Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah a couple of months ago, on Monday held a breakfast meeting with JD(S) State president H.D. Kumaraswamy, Anitha Kumaraswamy, Sa. Ra. Mahesh, and actor Nikhil Kumar triggering fresh rumours over his possible entry into politics.

This is interesting in the context of his uncle Sarovar Srinivas and one-time ardent supporter of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda recently joining the Congress, along with his friend M C Nanaiah and B Ramakrishna, allegedly frustrated over the treatment meted out to them.

A release from the party said that Mr. Sudeep met Mr. Kumaraswamy and the two-hour discussion pertained to politics and cinema.

A few days ago, Sudeep invited Mr. Kumaraswamy to his house for lunch and discussed the same issues. Interestingly, all the three major political parties - Congress, BJP and JD (S) - had tried to pull Sudeep to their side with an intention of fielding him from Molakalmuru constituency, Chitradurga district.

But Sudeep, who decided to maintain his distance from all the three of them, had reserved his right to campaign for any candidate of his choice, regardless of party affiliations.

Mangaluru, Jul 11: Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has set up an expert committee to look into the cause of deaths of covid patients in Dakshina Kannada.

The development comes after eight more fatalities including that of a CISF personnel attached to MRPL, were reported in the district on Friday.

The district has recorded 23 deaths since July 1 and 38 death cases have been reported in the district since April 19.

Of the 38 deaths, five were from outside the district. All the eight patients, who lost their battle to the virus in the district on Friday, were suffering from co-morbidities.

According to the govt bulletin on Covid-19 cases, comorbid conditions, like kidney failure, brain tumour, TB, pneumonia, liver damage, high BP, diabetes and others, were the main reasons behind the Covid-19 deaths reported in the district.

Bengaluru, Feb 3: The Karnataka government on Monday ordered high alert across border districts after neighbouring Kerala reported the second confirmed case of dreaded n-CoV Coronavirus. District administrations in Kodagu, Mangaluru, Chamarajanagar and Mysuru that share boundary with Kerala have been put on high alert over the movement of people with suspected cases.

In a statement released on Monday, the Health and Family welfare department said that these districts have been directed to immediately report to the State Surveillance Unit (SSU) if they come across any suspected cases of people infected with Coronavirus.

Currently, about 51 people who returned from Coronavirus-affected regions have been identified and 46 are under home isolation across Karnataka. So far, 44 samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for analysis and out of which 29 samples have revealed negative results. Yet, the state government has put in all possible measures to check the spread of the virus in any part of the state.

Bengaluru, May 6: The second day of liquor sales in Karnataka on Tuesday after easing of lockdown curbs saw a nearly five-fold jump in earnings, with Rs 197 crore worth spirits being sold.

According to top Excise Department officials, 4.21 lakh cases of Indian-made liquor, comprising 36.37 lakh litres, worth Rs 182 crore and 7.02 lakh litres of beer in 0.90 lakh cases worth Rs 15 crore was sold on Tuesday.

On Monday, when sales resumed in the state, Rs 45 crore worth liquor was sold.

"We had never expected such a record sale. It's unprecedented," an Excise official who did not wish to be named said.

Liquor sales had resumed in Karnataka on Monday after a 41 day gap following the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
