AIB roast wasn't funny, it was violent: Aamir Khan

February 11, 2015

Mumbai, Feb 11: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan feels expletive-laced 'AIB Roast' was not funny rather it "perpetuated verbal and emotional violence" and those who were involved should face the consequences if any law has been broken.

AIB roast

The 'PK' star, who has seen only two clips of the show, said he found it very disturbing and had scolded friends Karan Johar and Arjun Kapoor for being a part of it. The roast also involved Ranveer Singh and a group of stand up comedians.

"I have not seen the entire roast but I have heard about it and I have seen 2-3 clips of it... I was deeply affected by that. I scolded them (Karan and Arjun) and said 'I don't find it funny'. I personally have a problem with it.

"When the roast happened, I happened to be at a place where Karan and Arjun came and told us that we did this roast. I was deeply affected by that. I was most disappointed in what I was hearing... I felt it was a very violent event. Violence is not only physical, it can be verbal and emotional too. When you insult someone, you perpetuate violence," Aamir told students at an event on Monday.

The roast has sparked many controversies and an FIR has been filed against Johar, Kapoor and Singh.

Aamir, 49, said if they have broken any law they should face the consequences but there should be no "witch-hunting" against them.

"Have they broken a law or have they not, I am not going into that technicality. If they have broken a law, they should face the consequences like you and I. The law is for all of us. If the haven't broken the law they should have gone scot-free. I believe that the law should take its course," he said.

The actor believes that the creative people should shoulder some responsibility.

"I am not impressed by a bad language. Commenting on somebody's skin tone or sexuality and making a joke on that, I don't find it funny at all... I personally have a problem with what they have done and

therefore, I am not seeing the show," Aamir said while replying to students at the Youth for Governance 2015 event here.

The actor in the past had produced 'Delhi Belly', a movie which had a lot of "expletives" but he said he had informed people that it was meant for adults only.

Washington, Mar 23: Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, US media reported Sunday.

Harvey Weinstein, 68, is in prison in northern New York state after being sentenced to 23 years in jail for rape and sexual assault.

The fallen film producer's diagnosis was first reported Sunday evening by local paper the Niagara Gazette.

Harvey Weinstein's spokespeople have declined to comment to US media on the subject.

The New York state Department of Corrections did not respond when contacted by AFP for confirmation of the reports.

Harvey Weinstein was transferred Wednesday to a prison near Buffalo, 350 miles (560 kilometers) northwest of New York City.

Prior to his transfer, he stayed at Rikers Island prison and a Manhattan hospital, where he was treated for chest pains.

Crowded US prisons have the potential to become hotbeds for coronavirus infections. Last week, guards at Rikers and New York's Sing Sing prison tested positive for the virus, local media reported.

As of Sunday, the virus has killed 417 people in the US out of more than 33,000 cases, according to a tracker managed by Johns Hopkins University.

Harvey Weinstein was convicted in February of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree, while being cleared of predatory sexual assault charges.

He was convicted of raping ex-actress Jessica Mann in 2013 and of forcibly performing oral sex on former production assistant Mimi Haleyi in 2006.

Nearly 90 women, including Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek, have leveled sexual misconduct allegations against Harvey Weinstein, the Oscar-winning producer of "Shakespeare in Love" and numerous other critical and box office hits.

Kochi, Jun 27: The Kerala government on Friday submitted an application in a local court requesting to stop the prosecution of ivory possession case against Malayalam film actor Mohanlal.

In the application for withdrawal of prosecution, the government has requested the court to stop the prosecution "immediately for the interest of justice".

''The legality of the possession of two elephant tusks by Mohanlal was accepted by the competent authority under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 by issuing him a certificate of ownership. The possession and custody of the elephant tusks thus become legal after the Chief Wildlife Warden (CWW) issued him the certificate," the state government said.

"Further conduct of the criminal trial may go against the good faith amongst the parties as far as the certificate of ownership issued to Mohanlal is concerned. One cannot go back from that ownership certificate and it was stopped from contradicting, deny or declare to be false the previous statement made by the actor in the court," it added.

"The government should not be allowed to revert from its promises in order to keep the faith of the people and in the interest of good governance," the government further said.

The case was registered by the forest department in 2012. The state government submitted the application in Kuruppampady Judicial Magistrate Court, which will hear the matter on July 24.
