Al-Azhar University not in favour of Namaz at disputed land in Ayodhya: Prince Yakub

Hyderabad, Sept 6: Prince Yakub Habeebuddin Tucy, a Mughal descendant, has claimed that he has received a 'fatwa' from Al-Azhar University, Egypt, stating that a Masjid cannot be built on the disputed land in Ayodhya.

Prince Yakub said that he had earlier written a letter to the Al-Azhar University mentioning how Babri Masjid was demolished in Ayodhya and now Hindus perform 'puja' there.

"Recently, I had written a letter to Al-Azhar University... I had asked whether Namaz can be offered there now or Masjid can be made as per the Islamic point of view because few Ulema and Muslims in India are saying that Masjid should be made there. The matter is currently before the Supreme Court. I had also mentioned that several people have lost their lives in this matter," Prince Yakub told ANI here.

"I have received a reply, a 'fatwa' from them in Arabic that Namaz can't be offered there under any circumstances now and Masjid should not be built there... Our petition before the Supreme Court is pending. I have kept the translation copy of 'fatwa' ready. When our petition will be admitted, then we will submit it," he added.

Prince Yakub further alleged that if any Muslim in the world denies the decision of Al-Azhar University, then he will be "out of Islam."

"I would like to urge my Muslim brothers and sisters in India to support the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya," he said.

Prince Yakub had last month said that he will offer a gold brick if Ram Temple is built in Ayodhya.

"If the Ram Mandir is going to be built in Ayodhya, then we are going to offer golden brick for the construction of the temple. I have already filed a petition in the Supreme Court... We are appealing to the Supreme Court to listen to us because the Waqf Board is not the owner of the Ayodhya land," Prince Yakub told ANI here.

He further stated that if the Supreme Court gives the ownership of the land to him, then he will hand it over to the government of India.

The 16th-century Babri Masjid was demolished on December 6, 1992. The Supreme Court is conducting the day-to-day hearing into the case.

New Delhi, Jan 14: One of the four Nirbhaya gang rape convicts, who are scheduled to be hanged on January 22, moved a mercy plea before President Ram Nath Kovind to set aside the death sentence issued against him.

He also moved the Delhi High Court to set aside the death warrant issued by a trial court. This hearing is scheduled for Wednesday before a bench of Justices Manmohan and Sangita Dhingra Sehgal.

The petition, filed through advocate Vrinda Grover, seeks setting aside of the January 7 order issuing the warrant of his execution.

Jaipur, Jul 14: In a show of strength, Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot-led Rajasthan Congress camp on Monday released a video showing at least 16 MLAs sitting together.

This comes hours after the Congress held a legislature party meeting. Party leaders said 106 of 122 MLAs attended, a claim contested by the Pilot camp.

The 10-second video was shared late at night on Pilot's official WhatsApp group.

In the video, at least 16 MLAs are seen sitting together in a close circle. Pilot is not seen in the video.

Six other people can be seen in the video but they could not be identified.

Some of the MLAs seen in the video are Indraraj Gurjar, Mukesh Bhakar, Harish Meena.

Tourism Minister Vishvendra Singh tweeted the video with the caption "Family".

Ladnun MLA Mukesh Bhakar tweeted, "...Loyalty in Congress means Ashok Gehlot's slavery. That is not acceptable to us."

Pilot has been upset since he was denied the Rajasthan chief minister's post after the December 2018 assembly elections.

On Sunday, he claimed to have the backing of 30 Congress MLAs and "some independents".

Those close to him disputed Gehlot's claim that his government had a majority, and said this is proven in the assembly and not at the CM's house.

Sources close to him have also ruled out the possibility of Pilot joining the BJP.

In the 200-member Rajasthan Assembly, the Congress has 107 MLAs and the BJP 72. In the past, the ruling party has claimed the support of 13 independents, two MLAs each from the CPM and the Bharatiya Tribal Party, and one from the Rashtriya Lok Dal.

New Delhi, May 14: With a spike of 3,722 new cases in the last 24 hours, the COVID-19 count in India reached 78,003 on Thursday morning, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

As per the latest update by the Ministry, there are 49,219 active cases in the country while 26,235 patients have been cured and discharged, and one migrated, so far.

With 134 new deaths being reported due to the disease since yesterday, the toll due to the disease reached 2,549.

With 25,922 confirmed cases, Maharashtra is the worst affected by the infection in the country so far.

Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, with 9,267 and 9,227, cases respectively are the next worst affected by the disease.

The national capital, Delhi, is just a couple of cases behind the 8 thousand mark as per the update on Thursday morning.
